Beltangady: Venoor turns island – traffic closed for eight hours

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jul 5: On Wednesday night and Thursday, Venoor looked like an island because of flood water that had surrounded it on all sides. Roads leading to Moodbidri , Naravi, and Beltangady from Venoor got submerged and hence no vehicular movement was possible.

No vehicles could use these roads between Wednesday midnight and 9.30 am on Thursday. The policemen of Venoor station took up the responsibility of rescuing people, and shifted people living near Vidyodaya School as water level rose dangerously there. After the rescue work was concluded, revenue department chipped in by starting a gruel centre for the affected people.

The education department has already directed all the schools to extend full cooperation and assistance in case gruel centre needs to be opened in their premises because of emergencies. Although things have improved now, if it rains heavily on Friday, traffic will be thrown out of gear again.

Plastic, plastic, everywhere. Banned, but still exists. This litter got chocked in the mouth of the bridge and the result is floods. Administration should awake stern action and put a total ban on plastic.
