Bantwal: Bajrang Dal stops Omni transporting cattle, clashes erupt

Bantwal, Jul 5: Chaos erupted at Peruvai here on Friday July 5, after members of Bajrang Dal stopped a vehicle allegedly transporting cattle illegally. Police had to resort to a mild lathi charge after minor clashes broke out between groups over a comment.

The cattle were reportedly being transported in a Maruti Omni from Ninthikallu, Yennur in Sullia to Kerala via Kaddupadavu, Pervuvai.

It is said that a person identified as Chetan saw the car with calves inside and passed on the information to Bajrang Dal. Ramesh, Bhaskar, Mokshith, Yathish, Rakesh, Vishwanath, Balakrishna Shetty and Nayankumar, all from Bajrang Dal, waylaid the vehicle at Peruvai.

The driver fled the scene while another person, identified as Naveen (20) from Yennur, was caught and handed over to the police. He is said to be a vegetable vendor.

On interrogation, Naveen reportedly said that a person by name Shamshuddin from Yennur had been driving the vehicle, and that he had accompanied him on Shamshuddin's request. Two calves and a bull which were found in the Omni were later taken to Vittal police station by a pickup vehicle.

While the cattle were being loaded into the pickup vehicle by the locals, a person commented that Ranjith Marla (one of the persons present at the spot) had experience in loading cattle into vehicles and selling them. This led to a brawl.

Ranjith's father Ganesh Marla angrily demanded to know who had passed the comment. Peruvai BJP president Manohar Shetty, who had stood for taluk panchayat elections, also joined in the arguments with the person who had made the comment. Clashes arose between Peruvai Prabhakar Shetty, Gopal and Prashant Maniyani and Ranjith Marla.

Police who were at the spot resorted to mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control and eventually managed to disperse the crowd.

Lol...this is hilarious. Thrashing helpless girls in home stays and pubs is okay...but cattle should not be harmed! I do respect all life. Be it of an animal or a person. But I also believe in the food cycle. We need to start thinking straight.

I am not here to fight with anybody over here based on their religion or something....Some people say transporting cattle is not correct...Ok I agree with this.....Govt. should giv some licence for this..Most of the people eat beef...anybody have seen cattles on the roads roaming without food....They eat garbage things....First they hav to rescue them...if BD and all other people can do that then they can go for stopping vehicles like this....and after catching these vehicles the animals will be either shifted to goshala or they will be roaming on the road.....

Government must enact law to transport cattle (which goes to butchery) in a legitimate vehicle.Beef is not forbidden in Karnataka and therefore BD has authority on this. Cow/bulls/buffaloes are not God for all. Let us learn to respect human beings first, which has taken a back seat when you compare the rapes and murder. Beef is a vital food including military people.

Illegal transportation of cows in a inhuman way is condemnable. However, who let the dogs out ? No one should take law in their hands. Strict action to be taken against cattle transporters as well as Goondas who took law into their hands. Look at the 5th photo. Are they playing Dhandya ? Photo No. 3 - Vasthrapaharan ?

    Raj Shetty, Mangalore,

I also remember what the Great Jawaharlal Nehru wrote to his daughter Indira Gandhi, from his prison cell regarding the cow that is being worshipped in India. He said, “Worship and kindness do not always go together.” No wonder then that we come across so many stray cows all over left to fend for themselves. When we are at times so callous of our feminine folks, what to speak of cows in here??

First of all the transporting it in Maruthi Van was really a cruelty to the animal.
Second I am sure this sounds fishy, because the driver fled from the secene, next the person who was caught was vegetable vendor, next a person saw this when a the van was passing ,so this all preplanned to create problems.
My request guys who are transferring cattle if you are doing the right way please take protection or permission from police the way you are transferring & reason.
Please the Govt.in Karnataka should ban this group.

The difference Animals do not have Choice but people have. If somebody forced them to live 'people' in inhuman condition then please report. action needs to be taken against.
Don't ask BDs. Lets us talk what YOU and I can do to stop INHUMAN acts (whether on people or on animals)
Atrocities should be stopped then and there. Can one wait till all atrocities on humans are stopped before taking up the cause of the animals?

At end of May when I was vacationing in Mangalore I read a article in Udayavani which stated that India is the top exporter of beef in the world and Maharashtra has the biggest slaughter house in Asia. This article surprised me because majority in my country consider cow as the sacred animal. I personally support ban on cow slaughter if it hurts the feelings of majority community. But my question is why this cow catching is only limited to Mangalore? Have these guys have the guts to prevent cow slaughter all over India? If not, please mind your business let the law of the land take its own course.

Transporting cattle in a Maruthi van is illegal and inhuman. But the thing is why BJPwalas and Bajarangis way laid the Maruthi van.Let them give tip to Police department. Bajarangi's extra constitutional power in fact creates law and order problem.I am wondering why these illegal cattle transport continues even after BAJARANGI's network/valiant effort to stop them!!
