Mangalore: Ministers, MLAs should stop accepting felicitations - Janardhan Poojary

Mangalore, Jul 7: "It has been over a month since the Congress government was formed, still ministers and MLAs are busy attending felicitation programmes," lamented former union minister and Congress leader Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing media persons at the district Congress office here on Saturday July 6, he warned health minister U T Khadar and MLA J R Lobo to stop the practice of accepting honours immediately.

"Instead of spending on felicitations, the money should be utilized for providing compensation to families who incurred heavy loss due to floods," advised Poojary.

He also collected a sum of Rs 1 lac from the minister, MLA and party members who were present on the occasion.

Announcing that he will donate Rs 25,000 to flood victims, Poojary asked minister U T Khadar and MLA J R Lobo to contribute too. In response, Khadar promised to give Rs 26,000 and Lobo Rs 15,000. The other Congress leaders and activists also pooled in for the cause.

"Enough of honours and felicitations to elected representatives. People are facing trouble due to floods. I will also ask chief minister Siddaramaiah to stop attending felicitation ceremonies," he added.

Commenting on the Food Security Bill, he said, “The opposition party has been opposing the Food Security Bill planned to be implemented by the state government. If  this Bill is not passed in the session in the next six months, I will go on an indefinite hunger fast.”

“This Bill has been planned focusing on the nutrition aspect of the poor. But the BJP-led opposition party has been opposing this bill. This Bill was mentioned in the manifesto of the Congress Party in 2009, and it is not wrong to impose that now. And as it is in favour of the poor, no one should dare oppose it,” he added.

“None of the parties objected to the Bill when it was proposed before the standing committee. And now, with elections as the sole target, the opposition party is opposing the Bill. If the Bill becomes an Act, the poor can get the best of nutrition and thus, help in building a strong and healthy country,” he said.

Later, speaking about the theft of Thirthankara idols at Moodbidri, he said he has already visited the spot and it seems like the work of people who are quite familiar with the neighborhood. "The police are on high alert and I trust that the culprits will soon be arrested,” added Poojary.

MUDA former president Suresh Ballal, and T K Sudhir were present.

Mr.Roman Lob, Gurpur / Kaikamba : Mr. Poojary is missing all this tamasha for a very long time. Somehow, he is trying for the next LS ticket. But his 'tongue' lets him down always.

He does not have the J.R.Lobo 'class' and dignity !! Sorry to say that.

I think Mr. Poojary is going little over board. If people want to show appreciation towards their elected representatives by way of a shawl & garlands then what is the problem? Ideally he should have told them even without the presence of media. Mr. Lobo & Mr. Khader is meeting people and visiting areas of concern which no one has done so far. Come on do not demoralize them with negative comments instead give suggestions and join hands for the betterment of D.K

Mr.Ramanath Rai recently made a statement regarding tourism potential in DK & Udupi. There is potential I agree but CRZ 1 & 3 should be scrapped from the coastal region, to build beach resorts. Even in areas where there are clusters of fishermen's houses , these areas are defined as CRZ 1. In CRZ 1 & 3 zones, no construction, repairs ,renovation, no land conversion can be done, thereby making these lands / areas useless and worthless. Banks too do not give loans if the property is in CRZ 1 & 3 zones.

Mr.Lobo who was a good person with good reputation during the time of his job as a bueurocrat. So people rallied behind him that this man will do good in discharging his duties as MLA.Unfortunately the belief went wrong and this man, since the election result spends more time for attending felicitations and churches only than attending the real duties.Perhapes he may not be right man for peoples representative but only for job and table work.Sorry Mr,Lobo, you have still not understood the pulse of the Mangaloreans who voted you to power.

    Dear all,
Though, Mr. Poojary have no official rank with Congress now, he is one of greatest leader of Congress and a peace loving person, social worker and more than anyting he is non communal unlike BJP politicians everything who consider as religion as basis and share and eat in the name of religion and castes!!
Regarding felicitations yes, Mr. Poojary is 100% correct. As I have commented earlier all these Organizations who organize felicitations with some hidden agendas and benefits by return. They give all awards and rewards for free within 1 month of becoming just MLA and Ministers!!Let them work hard, benefit their presence and causes for the common man and at the end of their terms let them get whatever rewards and awards they suppose to get!! Ismail Bhai, you just copy pasted HDK's Statements other day & the congress's reply for the same. Saying is easy, am sure if you are following present Karnataka politics closely even if you don't want to acknowledge it all is not well within the. Sidhanna (who himself is Honest and non-corrupt no doubt) has one agenda of trying to do a one man show, for which rest of the corginal congis are now started feeling insecure that he may steal the limelight for example if 1 Rs rice becomes hit. Ground truth is, congress wants to repair the boat before any chances holes developing because of all these cold wars within.Thats why wants to keep Siddhu in check and started this new naatak of co-ordination committee. There is also news of a new call to make Paramesi as DCM ???
You used always say this 3-CM,2-DCM mantra for last 2 years, we hope we don't have to see 2 CM's in the history of Karnataka in the first year of Office , that too of a fully majority Govt. BJP atleast had staff problem to cross simple majority that's why Yeddy had to do all these circus but atleast somehow he managed to take it for 3 years with all the threats around!

    SHARATH BHAI,

DINESH POOJARI & whomsoever it may concern...

    Co-ordination Committee

Such committees are formed whenever coalition govt were formed. But here the proposed committee would be formed to equilibrium party policies and Govt functions.I mean to say to ease the misunderstandings between party functionaries Govt leaders. It is a new concept and since Congress ruled this country more than 60 years so that they may comfortable with it.Surprisingly MR JAYAPRAKSH HEGDE,MP-UDUPI ONE OF THE MEMBER.

Local Body's reservation cycle not yet finalized due to various reasons including Model Election Code of conduct etc, however, it would be d with in few days,

The issue oc CM post for me,I did not become official member of any party yet and there is no question of becoming even Village Panchayth member as of now.

Some one written against SALA-MELA..My question for them what is volume of NPA of the industrialists, politicians and mighty crooked individuals who owes to the bank.If poor people thought of grant nothing will loose it is tiny amount compared to NPA.

With humility I beg to differ with Mr. Nithin, although I understand that he has a right to his opinion. Ask bankers from those days, and they would tell you how much was written off of the loans granted through these Sala Melas. It is not that I am against development, I fully support the Direct Cash Transfer Benefit scheme, irrespective of who introduced it. However, to make mere claims that Sala Melas benefitted every recipient, and made an enormous changes to their lives is a frivolus and unsubstantiated claim. Many beneficiaries took it for a grant and not as a loan. To rationalize something like this, with the argument that banking services were not available for some sections of the society is taking a too simplistic view and avoiding answering direct questions. It was a joke in those years, that for the amount of loans given to buy cattle in DK district alone, had all of them reared cattle brought by those loans, DK would have been another 'Anand' district (AMUL), but that was not to be. The proof of a concept/initiative is in its results and not in its intent alone.

    ...contd.
It is interesting to know that teh quantum of loans sanctioned in sala melas were very megre ie., Rs.5000,10,000 or maximum Rs.25,000 if it was for artisan purpose. It is also true that quite good number of such loans were written off by the banks in later years due to loans not being recovered. It is interesting to know that the concept of writting off the loan big or small is in vogue even much before this sala mela but such loans were belonged to only to affluent clas.Even such things were kept confidential. The amount of written off these small loans is of very megre %age compared to big loans those written off. This is naked truth.Even today big quantum of various loans were being written off yearly by all most all banks. One can not rule out the the role vested interest involved in these excercises.Today writting off bad loans has become a routine of banking practice to stream line thie advance fortfolio.Yet banks are doing well and their balance sheets are strong. This is the result of scientific approach couple with prodent reforms in banking field.
So it is better not to show fingers at Mr.Poojary for sala mela.Today sala melas are reformed and refurbished and are being widely popular for promoting varous banking products. Now,tell me do you want to blame Mr.Poojary?

    Dear Sachidanand Shetty and prashanth,
The concept of 'sala mela'was essentially formulated during the tenure of Mr.B.Jardhan Poojary in the year 1984 when he was MoS Banking & Finance in Late Rajiva Gandhi's cabinet. Before commenting any adverse opinion about Mr.Poojary or his salamela concept it is better one should go into the subject discretely as to know the background of such initiative.Definitely the cocept of salamela was not at all a dissastrous as pinted out but proved a boon for the small/economically weaker seciton/down droddens of the society spread across the nation.Though 14 big banks in the pirvate sector were nationalised keeping in mind the social welfare, till mid 80' nothing concrete steps were initiated in banks to reach out to the above mentioned classes of the soceity.Though the back bone of our economy is primarily the agrculture,in 70's even a getting loan for farmers with small holding was very difficult.Forget the getting the loans, even these people were not dare to enter the Branch Manger's cabin seeking financial assistance. When situation was such the concept of sala mela was came into beeing mainly to chanalise the bank finance into the poor/weaker sections of the soeity.Quite naturally when such a bold initiatve was taken there might have been shortcomngs here and there which are negligble. In short Mr.Poojary has opened the flood gates of small loans in banks to reachout to weakers sections of the soceity. It was a historic event and the trend made a humble begining in aiming financial support to poor class and rest is the history.Later schemes were formulated by RBI to help the people .e. IRDP.SEEUY,PMRY etc., etc.,Interestingly in those days there was no system of scientific approach to monitor small loans or otherwise in commercial banks. The introduction of income recognition and assets classification in bank during the year 1992 has changed the entire system of assessing thee health of any banks.

Dear Nitin, indeed "Saala Mela" program helped many but if you know the Balance Sheet figures of few of the Banks in India involved in “Saala Mela” Program, how much they cursed Poojary can you imagine? If you are firm believer of any religion then you might have learned that not returning of any Loan amount is also kind of sin in our life. Government did nothing but accepting as “Bad Debts” for tax calculation purposes but almost all Banks stopped that “Mela” without heeding further request from State or Central Government to continue. I think no doubt Poojary is one of the non-corrupt politicians in India but honesty..... just forgot about that……….

Lobo Mama spent 6 Crores for election. But has only 16,000 rs for flood victims. He does not want to spend looted money even for people who are in trouble.

U T KHADER, RAMANTAH RAI, ABHAYA CHANDRA JAIN, OSCAR FARNADES, VEERAPPA MOILY ARE MINISTERS IN ITALIAN LED CONGRESS STATE AND CENTRAL CABINET.

ALL THE ABOVE ARE LEAST BOTHERED ABOUT SUFFERING OF PEOPLE IN KARNATAKA DURING FLOOD ETC...

THEY COME IN SPECAIL PLANE FOR FELICITATION .

MORE THAN 15 IDOLS ARE STOLEN IN JAIN BASADI NO ONE TAKE INITIATIVE TO CATCH THIEVES.

LOBO MAAM IS STILL HIDING IN THE FILES OF REPORTS OF SOMASHEKAR ON CHURCH ATTACK.

GEORGE BHAI, SIDDU AND CO. ARE INTERESTED ONLY IN TAKEOVER OF HINDU TEMPLES, MUTTS ETC...

BOTH BJP ( BHARATIYA JANATA PARTY AND B JANARDAN POOJARY) ARE OPPOSING ABOVE .

LOBO MAAM IS NOT BOTHERED ABOUT DESTRUCTION OF WHOLE COASTAL AREA BUT HE WANTS TO DIG REPORTS OF CHURCH ATTACK .

The person who has Jaundice can only see yellow but Nagesh Nayak can see only Saffron color everywhere. If you go by Nagesh's version of the events all the black money and illegal activities are being done by Congress and Sonia Ghandi while he forgets the basic fact which he studied in elementary school (May be he is brainwashed by Saffron Brigade) ' HANIGOODI HALLA'.
Today we as a society have lost the conscience which has led to increased corruption. Everyone in power indulges in Corruption and nepotism which is supported by 99% of the people in the society directly or indirectly. It is absolutely absurd to blame a political party here. We as citizens of the country need to change then the entire society is better place. If we say to ourselves ‘EVERYONE INDULGES IN THESE WHY WE SHOULD NOT’ then we are doing a greater harm to the society.
Nagesh is also trying to bring in religion into politics may be because of the influence of his hero who was correctly referred as ‘FEKU’.

    Dear Nagesh Mam,

The church attack is the root cause of further esclation of wrong doing by erstwhile fugative regime and thier alliances like, watching porn in assembly, raping wife of party collegue MLA, Killing of MLAs wife in Delhi, recent rapes in Manipal, theft is various temples and other regious places. since the chruch attackers are not caught and punished all these illegal acticivites are still going on. need of the hour is catch them and punish them according to the rule of land. Even BJP lost power because of these church attacks !!
If Lobo mam is doing enquiry, then this will help BJP too to idenfiy where BJP went wrong!!
So, instead of putting hurdle, lets support Lobo mam in his work. I am sure Lobo mam will not only concetrate only this issue. He will give priortity for every issue of his constitunecy.
Nagesh Mam, what you need is relax for 5 years and dont poke you nose everywhere. If congress will not perform then you will have chance after 5 years. First let BJP bring in Shriman BSY back to party, without him BJP can not surivce, then again if he comes back others have to shut up thier mouth!! therefore when we have so many problems in our own house, it is not good to poke our nose into others house.

Oh… Poojary back on stage again. So, Loksabha Election is nearing. Now he is talking about food bill ordinance by State Government too. It’s good that he has mentioned this promise was made by Congress in 2009 election Manifesto and now suddenly remembers the promise made by them. Instead of blaming Opposition for everything, he should ask his Central Leadership why did it take 4 years to bring the bill in Parliament for approval?
