Bangalore: Two BJP delegations in Delhi to negotiate Yeddy’s comeback plans

Bangalore, Jul 8: Two delegations are in New Delhi as of now, to meet the national leaders of BJP and impress them upon the need to allow Yeddyurappa to come back into the party fold. One of these delegations reached New Delhi on Sunday, while the other travelled to the country’s capital on Monday.

These groups want to bring pressure on the high command of the party to soften its stand on Yeddy’s return to the party. A decision about sending the delegation was reportedly taken at a meeting convened in this connection here a few days back.  Another meeting was held thereafter in the presence of in-charge of BJP affairs in Karnataka, Thawar Chand Gehlot.

One of these delegations, led by former chief minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, which has seven members like former assembly speaker, K G Bopaiah, former ministers, Jeevaraj, Umesh Katti, and Basavaraj Bommai, reached New Delhi on Sunday. The other delegation, led by MP, D B Chandre Gowda and Rajya Sabha member, Prabhakar Kore, which also has seven members, went to New Delhi on Monday it is gathered.

The delegations plan to meet party’s national president, Rajnath Singh, before the commencement of the parliamentary board meeting being held there today, and ask him to complete the process of admitting Yeddy back into the party faster because of the coming Lok Sabha election. The delegations plan to meet Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, and some other leaders. As Advani did not give them any appointment, the delegations are unlikely to be able to meet him, it is said.

Some also analyze that one of the purposes of the delegations in working to bring Yeddyurappa back into the party is to cement their candidatures for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. It is gathered that expecting that NDA will rise to power at the centre under the leadership of Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi,  BJP leaders like Sadananda Gowda, former deputy chief minister, Ashok, Arvind Limbavali, Umesh Katti etc, who even hope to get ministerial berths at the centre on the basis of their caste, seniority etc, want to ensure that the national leaders approve of their effort to bring Yeddy back. They think that bringing Yeddyurappa back will stand them in good stead. It is said that even the present BJP Lok Sabha members feel that it will be advantageous for them if Yeddyurappa backs them during the coming election.

At the same time, speaking at Hubli in a press conference, state president of the party, Prahlad Joshi, said that a few party leaders have been trying to bring Yeddyurappa back in order to avoid the votes meant for the party getting split between BJP and KJP. He said that the state unit of the BJP will be bound by the decision to be taken by the party high command in this connection. He recollected that Thawar Chand Gehlot had insisted that the process should be initiated by Yeddyurappa in the form of a formal proposal, and reiterated that this position stands as of now. About the media reports regarding submission of favourable to the party high command by Gehlot recommending for admitting Yeddyurappa back into the party, Joshi said this was a media creation.
