Kundapur: Truck rolls over after hitting bridge, pedestrian serious

Kundapur, Jul 11: A tipper truck hired for transporting crushed stones hit the railings of a bridge, and rolled over on its side after hitting a pedestrian. The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday July 10 at Hunsekatte on Kundapur-Basrur road.

In the accident, which occurred at about 9 pm on Wednesday, the pedestrian suffered critical injuries. He has been identified as Vinay (25) from Neramballi village in the taluk. He is employed at the recently opened branch of Karnataka Bank Ltd near Majestic Hall in the town.

Vinay was walking towards his home after buying milk from a shop in Hunsekatte, when the accident occurred. When he was walking by Hunsekatte Bridge, the tipper that was being driven at a high speed, hit the bridge before knocking Vinay down, and then tumbled onto the road. Vinay was tossed down from the bridge in the incident.

The tipper was moving to Koni from Kundapur. Its driver, identified as Ramesh from Siddapur, and another person, escaped unhurt.

Ramesh has suffered grievous injuries to his head. He is being treated in a private hospital in the town. A case stands registered in the police station here.
