Moodbidri: Basadi thefts - Kolar police arrest two, recover Panchaloha idol

Daijiworld Media Network - Moodbidri (VM)

Moodbidri, Jul 12: In a major breakthrough, two thieves were arrested on Friday July 12 in Kolar district in connection with the recent theft of idols from Basadis here.

File Photo

The arrested are Das and Pramod from Orissa. They were caught by the Kolar police at Kurnul on Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border, sources said.

The police also recovered the ancient Panchaloha idol of Sri Adhinata Swamy, which is said to be worth Rs 1000 crore.

The theft had occured on June 17 night. The thieves had entered the yard of Chaturvinshati Basadi in Bangadi by breaking open the lock, and taken away 18-inch high Panchaloha idols of Sri Adinatha Swamy, Vrishabhanatha Swamy, Dharmanatha Swamy, and Mahaveera Swamy. The other stolen idols are yet to be recovered.

On the same night, the thieves had also gained entry into the Basadi dedicated to Padmaprabha Teerthankara in the same compound, and succeeded in taking away an 18-inch idol of Padmaprabha Teerthankara, and a six-inch Panchaloha idol of Lord Brahma seated on a horse. Earlier on June 15, 19 Teerthankara idols had been stolen. On July 6, thieves also struck Siddanta Jain Basadi at Moodbidri and stolen an ancient Panchaloha idol.

Do you see the religion of a person who supplies milk to you or the shop vendor who sells groceries to you? (The source of production) You need to come out of the well where you are currently living in.You are just like a rotten apple which spoils the entire fruit basket. THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU POST SOME SH*T HERE & STOP DIVIDING PEOPLE ON THE BASIS OF COMMUNITY. BRITISH HAS ALREADY DONE THAT & WE DON'T WANT THEIR CHEAP ACTS.

    Hello Haaris, Puttur/Dubai

Hi, what do you mean when you say "Its their own community people who did this here" Two people who got caught do not belong to Jainism. Remember, Jainism is an independent religion!

Another point to make clear to everyone, every press/ TV channels are saying, idols of "Gods" have been stolen. They are not idols of Gods. In Jainism there is no concept of God. They are referred as "Theerthankara", who have attained the eternal state.

Another point, you said.."may be they were expecting some minorities to be caught".
If you are referring to community you belong, its wrong. You have to come out of that insecurity thought in yourself. All religions are good. As long as you are following good thoughts told by your customs, you need not prove that you are good, at the same time no need to have a negative thought in mind that everyone else in world is seeing me as culprit.

Yet another point, Jainism also belongs to minority community :)

    Thanks.
    Have a good day!

Now don't CONDEM the Jain or Buddist for they don't have the concept of god and to them Mahavir and Buddha are not gods.

Very good news, I would like to remind one thing here, two days back BD had made a big hue and cry saying der are robberies taking place in the temples. Now surely it will be hard for them to digest this news because its their own community people who did this here. Sorry no offence, i had to mention this here , may be they were expecting some minorities to be caught.

1000 CRORES OR INFINITE CRORES IS NOT THE VALUE OF THESE IDOLS. THEIR VALUE IS BEYOND HUMAN REACH...
SHAME ON PEOPLE WHO VALUE THEM HUMANLY AND DARE TO BUY AND SELL THEM...
THEY REMAINED IN THE BASADI FOR YEARS TOGETHER...
ALL REVERRED THEM IRRESPECTIVE OF RELIGION , CASTE OR CREED...
WHY TODAY WE HAVE SOME SELFISH ELEMENTS WHO WANT TO CREATE A VOID WITHIN US...???
THEY MUST BE KEPT BEHIND BARS UNTIL DEATH FOR THE MERE FACT THAT ONCE A THIEF ALWAYS A THIEF...

The antique value of these idols cannot be priced.

I strongly feel, locals with the know-how of these ancient temples have passed information n intelligence to their collaborators in other states. Modus-operandi would be to ask other state thieves to carry out operation so that they can avoid detection from cops. It is similar to supari killing. Police have to find out local people who are part of this network.

    Dear Bollu
Law & order has failed before also & will fail in future also, one cannot help it even in the countries with harshest punishments. But the question is how will the law enforcers respond to such situations or will they just throw a Blind Eye or will they show their efficiency by not bowing down to any pressures whether political or other social. Here one must appreciate the Police's efforts in nabbing the thieves otherwise usually thieves like these usually get away easily with all such thefts. Also the problem with the law is in case of personnel thefts even if the thieves are caught the victims have to wait for court to release their respectable valuables, am not sure how will this apply now. Anyways good work by the Karnataka Police.
Yesterday I saw in Udaya News about some Lady Inspector(I guess Tumkur) giving double Cane treatment to @$$'s of some Drunk masters who allegedly created some rukus in the Bar. These thieves also should be given the same treatment before producing them to court.
