Bantwal, Jul 13: In a startling incident, a person said to be mentally ill commited suicide after allegedly stabbing his wife and mother with a butcher knife. The incident took place at Neralakatte on Thursday July 11 night.

Abdul Hameed, a resident of Kodaje in Netla Mudnur is said to have brutally attacked his wife and mother before ending his life.

Asma (28), wife of Hameed and his mother Mariyamma (55) are admitted to a hospital in Mangalore. Their condition is said to be critical.

The incident is said to have taken place when the other family members went to mosque.

As per the information obtained, Hameed attacked his wife with a butcher knife and when his mother intervened, he attacked even her. Later, Hameed is said to have committed suicide by hanging.

Hameed, who was in religious service in the past, had recently joined for work in a super market in Mangalore. After working for a week there, he came home on Thursday night and began to fight with wife on a frivolous matter. As both his brothers, Abdul Razak and Abdul Khader, had left for the special namaaz in the mosque on account of Ramzan, his wife, his brother’s wife, mother, and an 18-month-old child were at home. After he injured his wife and hit his mother at her head, and both the woman became unconscious and collapsed in a pool of blood, his brother’s wife ran out of the house and raised an alarm.  Within a few moments, Hameed used a sari at home to hang himself, it is learnt.

It is learnt that Hameed had developed psychological disorder of late, and had started fighting frequently with his wife thereafter. His wife had also returned to her parental home because of his behaviour, but the relatives had convinced her to come back. The couple has two children, a five year old son, Saleem, and 18-month-old daughter, Ashika, it is gathered.

Vittal station house officer, Madhava Koodlu, and other policemen rushed to the spot. The butcher knife used for murder apparently was bought recently, giving clue that murder of wife was pre-planned.

Vittal police visit the spot and conducted investigation.
