Ivan Prashant D'Silva elected president of Udupi diocese ICYM

Udupi, Jul 14: Ivan Prashant D’Silva of Holy Family Church, Brahmavar was elected the first president of ICYM, Udupi diocese for the year 2013–14, during the election held on Sunday July 14 at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur.
Sheethal Fernandes of Thottam Church was elected secretary, Lionel Menezes of Kanajar treasurer, Shawn Ashley of Pius Nagar, Kundapur and Renal Lavita D’Souza of Udupi vice-presidents, Bonita Alphonso of Mukamar joint secretary and Alwyn Fernandes of Kalmady the media representative. Leslie Aroza, Thottam was elected the animator and Fr Edwin D’Souza will be the director of the diocesan youth council.
Lester Pais, president of Kallianpur deanery, Shawn Ashley, president of Kundapur deanery, Loyal D’Souza of Shirva deanery, Franklin Danthi, president of Karkala deanery, and Roshan D’Souza, president of Udupi deanery will be the members of the newly-formed council.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi presided over the valedictory function of the office-bearers' training programme and invoked God's blessing on the newly-elected office-bearers.
Dr Gerald in his address congratulated the new council members and expressed his joy in inaugurating the first Udupi diocese ICYM central council.
He called upon the youth to be a strong unit and said, "We should build more leaders among the youth and find out new routes to achieve success. Impossible things can be made possible with youth power. The youth should think in a creative way to achieve greater heights and take paths that no one else has tried."
He further said, "Youth should come forward and take more responsibility. The youth of the entire country should learn new things from our diocese youth. Thus now onwards we have to be more creative. Already four people from the diocese have been sent for IPS training. More youngsters should plan and think about this even after they are qualified as doctors and engineers."
Entrepreneur Frank Fernandes, Fr Stany B Lobo, rector, Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, Fr Edwin D’Souza, director YCS / YCM / ICYM, Fr Reginald Pinto, director, social development commission of Udupi diocese, Fr Fredrick D’Souza, director, Kallianpur deanery, ICYM, Sheldon Crasta, president of ICYM of Mangalore diocese were present on the dais.
Fr Edwin conducted the oath taking ceremony.
Loyal D’Souza of Shirva welcomed the gathering, Owin Rebello, ex-president of Udupi district ICYM proposed the vote of thanks. Roshan D’Souza of Kunatalnagar compered the programme.
Earlier in the day Fr Stany B Lobo, rector of Milagres Cathedral inaugurated a day-long training programme for office-bearers. While Fr Reginald Pinto, Fr Henry Vaz, Fr Fredrick D’Souza, Leslie Lewis, vice-president of Milagres parish pastoral council were present.
Shaun Ashley welcomed the gathering, Lester Pais proposed the vote of thanks and Dreema D’Souza compered the programme.
Fr Reginald Pinto conducted a workshop for all the participants. ICYM members of Karkala, Shirva, Udupi, Kallianpur and Kundapur deaneries took part.
