Bhatkal: Row between neighbours - Woman throws acid on man's face

Bhatkal, Jul 17: A woman in Bhatkal allegedly threw acid on a man leaving him critically injured. He is now admitted to Manipal hospital.

The incident took place at Uttarakoppa in Bhatkal taluk on Monday at around 8 pm. The victim is identified as Benny Joseph (38) who was working as a labourer. Benny Joseph and accused Jessy Conical were neighbors and they had problems with land.

Jessy owns a shop. It is said that problems arose when Benny’s dog ate eggs from the shop, and as revengem Jessy killed the dog by poisoning it and left it in Benny’s compound.

Benny’s wife and Jessy quarelled over this issue. Both the families share same lane, and during the fight Jessy ordered Benny and his wife to not to walk on the lane.

The fight did not stop there. On Monday around 8 pm, Benny was walking back home after consuming alcohol and there was no power. On the way, he saw Jessy behind a cashew tree. All of a sudden, someone flashed light on Benny’s face and a man caught him from behind. At the same time, Jessy came towards him and threw acid on his face, it is said.

Due to the incident, Benny’s face and neck has been completely burnt, it is said. As acid was thrown on his face, Benny screamed loudly in pain. Benny’s wife and others rushed to the spot and took him to Murudeshwar and then to Kundapur hospital.

As the case was critical he was later shifted to Manipal hospital on doctor's advice.

The information was passed by Manipal police to Murudeshwar police, who have now arrived at Manipal for investigation.
