Mangalore, Jul 17: Minor chaos ruled outside MCC building here on Wednesday July 17 evening after residents of Pachanady decided to vent their ire over the unscientific and careless manner in which garbage was being disposed at the Pachanady dump yard.

The residents said that of late, the MCC workers who were assigned the job of disposing garbage had been dumping waste meat in the open instead of burying it as per stipulation.

"The meat remnants are picked up by dogs which leave them on roadside or inside compounds of houses. Because of this, diseases like dengue are on the rise in the area," they said.

They further said that they had on earlier occasions warned the workers not to dump meat in the open, but to no avail.

Frustrated, the locals finally decided to take action, and on Wednesday seized the garbage truck and brought it all the way to MCC building where they planned to dump the garbage.

However, Barke police arrived at the spot and stopped them from dumping the garbage there. The situation was soon brought under control after police intervention.

Recently our outgoing MCC Commissioner announced that the property tax defaulters will be named and shamed by beating 'thamate' at the door steps of defaulters. The general public should do the same thing to the MCC officials if basic amenities like garbage removal, drainage leakages, roads etc are not properly maintained by the concerened MCC personnels even after promptly paying propery taxes.

The protest clearly shows,it is the Wake up call for MCC officials and Corporaters of concerned ward. It is really hard to travel pachanady area via bondel because of bad smell due to dumping of waste disposals...There is no proper way of dumping. Some waste are lying on road or we can see stray dogs pulling waste garbage bags.... This protest would have been done years before....

    Dear Dinesh Poojary,
As i am resident of mangalore and close to pachandy dump yard, we know what MCC performed during BJP administration in city corporation which you are not aware of as you are residing in kundapur. They not wasted a single opportunity to loot city corpotion treasury as BJP govt done in Karnataka. The former mangalore south MLA wasted 20 years doing nothing for development of the mangalore city. Moreover for your kind information, pachandy comes under mangalore north and not mangalore south .

Some people here just make any type of comments without knowing if Panchanady falls under south or north Mangalore.
Is it not better to first find out and then comment?
Very immature comments from matured persons.

Pass by BC road NH48 Dharmasthala Road see how stinking Garbage is strewn on the highway side... As usual India as such anywhere doesn't learn to manage garbage.. Garbage segregation should start at your house... So we need media support to educate all people through TV and news papers to manage Garbage..

    Dr. P. H. Suratkal

Yes Sir, The Garbage should be segregated at source and not dumped on roadsides as and whenever people feel.
Instead of highlighting un-necessarily rape cases and some ordinary news, let the Media high-light every now and then, the Government requirement of garbage disposal, so that people gradually are aware of it and act on it. That will be useful service rendered by he Media.
We do that in Bangalore, in our building and surrounding area and also deposit the garbage in the morning before the garbage collectors come. That way there is very little left for cats\dogs to rummage and very very less stink.
Since the garbage is tied in bags and deposited in drums with covers, the garbage cannot be disturbed\scattered outside the bin.
Citizens should adhere and help Govt. to keep the places around clean.

But in this case, people are complaining of MCC apathy which MCC should immediately look into and solve. At source if garbage is properly disposed and it is not done away properly by MCC, all the efforts of the citizens is lost.

What can we expect from this useless govt? The ministers visit hospital every now and then to get highlighted in Media and disturb patients who are taking injection, glucose and bed rest.

If these useless ministers can dispose the garbage in proper manage, they can avoid diseases like Dengue, Chicken Gunya, Mutton Gunya, Cholera, Malaria, Typhoid etc etc.
