IT raids on educational, religious institutions in Karnataka

IT raids on educational, religious institutions in Karnataka

Bangalore, Jul 18 (PTI): Income Tax department officials today conducted raids on several educational institutions in Bangalore and Gulbarga.

Raids were conducted at the office of Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, which runs a string of institutions, including medical and engineering colleges across the state, particularly in north Karnataka, official sources said.

The residences of former member of legislative council Sashil G.Namoshi, who is heading the institution, and some members of the Society Committee were also raided, the sources said.

The places raided in Bangalore include Saptagiri College at Hesarghatta and Ambedkar College at DJ Halli, officials said.

Office of the BGS Education trust, run by the powerful Adichunchanagiri Mutt here in whose complex it is located, also came on the radar of IT officials, which drew condemnation from some political leaders.

The raids come at a time when the admission process is on for engineering and medical seats.

IT department said the raids were "routine".

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader D V Sadananda Gowda said he did not understand why religious institutions doing social service were being targetted, adding, it was "not a good sign."

State Congress leader D K Shivakumar also flayed the raid on Adichunchanagiri trust, saying he would take up the issue with the government.

This IT raid appears to be an eyewash as somewhere in the report it is stated that it is a routine raid!!

As viewed by many education has become a very lucrative and safe place for money laundering and investing black money doing all sorts of financial manipulations and almost every powerful religious body be it from any caste is having a hands in this pie, the professional colleges who are the hens laying golden eggs for them in a safe and honorable manner!!

Religious trusts apart, public memory is too short if one delves carefully into the past history of majority of the main people who run these professional institutions one would be shocked as to how they made their billions in such short a time and quickly changed over to wearing "khadi clothes" and opening professional educational institutes and deemed universities!! No doubt with so much of money involved in the system, a vicious cycle has been created wherein education has been totally commercialized and anything and everything is possible with the power of money!! No doubt so many new institutions who give admission to 45% mark holders get 100% pass% year after year even in the toughest of streams!! This cascading effect of paying crores capitation in medicine leads to the doctors indulging in all sorts of unethical practices left and right at the cost of the common man to recoup his investments as early as possible!!

The very fact that there is unchecked mushrooming of professional colleges is that 10s of 1000s of seats in engg go unfilled each year and that education is a safe ground for hiding black money!! In Maharashtra alone this year some 50k engg seats are going abegging!! All this indicates to where our education standard is leading, and the end product which comes out from these colleges how will they be employable even for routine jobs!! God save!!!

If - according to our politicians - the religious organisations are doing social service (all religions included), why are they sitting on huge cash piles? DVS and DKS should answer.

D.K. Shivkumar a big chor and DVS spineless leader. Nothing can be done by these two leaders. If IT raids are conducted with political ambitions, then it's wrong. If they are conducted with real intentions then better raid other institutions which evade tax. Common man is forced to pay tax and why not these rich institutions? Tragedy in India is rich get more richer and poor get more poorer.

All powerful religious organisations and individuals, who do not pay legitimate taxes to government must be raided by Income Tax officials without bias or favor. Let these officials do their duty, and let tax-defaulters pay for their greed. After many years, there is one daring raid on powerful educational institution run by Majority community. It is a welcome sign to achieve justice n prosperity. Many educational institutions run by Lingayat mutts, Christian n Muslim bodies must also be subjected to scrutiny - if they are payin taxes to government then fine, otherwise they must be taken to task. Pay tax and be relaxed about raids.

Yeddy, after becoming CM, donated public money to many Mutts ( whatever may be the justification for it). No one knows how that money is being spent or where that money is being utilized. Many of these religious organizations run Medical, Dental, Engineering and Nursing colleges, which lay golden eggs for these heads of institutions. Yeddy gave crores of rupees to Mutts which do not have to pay tax to government ( tax exemption). This money would have been used to run Educational Institutions by Mutts, or this money could well be a safe tax-haven for Yeddi and other political leaders with tacit understanding between Politician n Pontiff. This generous allocation of funds must be backed by proper audit n also scrutiny by concerned constitutional bodies.

Most of illegal wealth can be recovered if authorities have the will power to take on mighty. Hope there is strong winds of change for the good of society blowing .... Gently.

Income Tax raid is not intended to malign these educational institutions. Many people who run these institutions have done fraud. If these institutions receive money, full money has to go to trust or mutt or institution. Wht some people in these organisation will do is they will keep some portion of money for themselves n some money they deposit in account of Organisation. The money that these people have kept for themselves is black money which doesnt invite any tax.

IT raid is precisely to nab these powerful frauds.

IT raid should be conducted to all the education institutions. Now days education institutions are beyond money making/profit making, and not on education. Today many political leaders/communities/businessmen run the education societies that means not provide the education its on where they can earn easily without any hard effort.

Even in our D.K.and Udupi districts also I.T. raid should be conducted on Private Educational Institutions who are charging Capitation Fees in Crores for Medical Seats, and more than 1.50 lakh capitation Fees (Per year) in Engineering colleges for those students whose CET ranking is above 30000 and not sure of getting seat in direct CET counselling.

It is a fact that religious institutions are having lot more income they than they show. But is also a fact that their institutions are far better than Government Institutions. Instead of filling their own pocket at least they do much more than Government. This is a fact and we need to appreciate this. If religious institutions were not there, then all these politicians could have pushed our country to such level that even people would have died without food. Stop this kind of raids...!!!??? You corrupt IT officials...IT officials are corrupt to the core....They are also responsible for our poverty in India....Raid all the IT officials and you will know the truth...!!!!????

    People,

Only people paying taxes correctly in India are salaried people like Postman to Chief Secretary of Government.

Its sad that most who make fat bucks like businessmen/Babbus who take bribe/ Politicians who take bribe are not paying any taxes on fat money they make.

Its really very sad state of affairs...

If everybody pays taxes honestly like in west, India could become a prosperous Country...
