Beltangady: They waited for letters that never came, and found them in bushes!

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady

Beltangady, Jul 23: The people belonging to Kalenja post office area of Nelyadi here had shock of their life when some of them noticed that important postal letters like insurance premiums, bonds, cheques, telegrams, love letters, and many others were lying among bushes and had become soggy due to heavy rains.

Postman Kushalappa who took the easy way out and ended up throwing precious letters in the bushes, was caught by the villagers and handed over to auhorities, who suspended him from duty.

When people noticed these letters in the bushes, they complained to the postal authority. Postal officials who inspected the area admitted the mistake committed by the postman, but had no answer to the postal letters which were destroyed due to rains. Some letters were recovered and delivered to the people concerned, but many more are suspected to be misplaced.

Villagers had once complained to the authorities about postman Kushalappa who was said to be not prompt in his duty and also reportedly inebriated during duty hours. But no action had been taken against him.

Speaking to media, Udaya Kumar said that Kushalappa has been suspended from duty and alternate arrangements have been made to deliver the letters on daily basis, but if any important letter has got misplaced, the postal authority cannot be responsible because important documents should not be sent through normal post.

People also suspect that Kushalappa must have been doing this from a long time, as some people never received their letters sent by relatives or others.

Recently whole India said goodbye to our 163 year old Telegram service. If letters are thrown like this by the Postman a staff of Postal dept. then definitely our post office service will also vanish one fine day.

A letter posted from Dubai and another from Moodbidri to Dubai has never reached to both destinations for more than 18 months now. Thank God we have better e-mail and telephone system these days. I think all these Govt paid post office employees are having good time these days as there is no control from higher authories. What a waste of tax payers money and the stamp value we pay?

you have created history (max. Agree) all because of no political party based criticism in your comments. Keep it up.

As you have proposed mail service cannot be stoped at least in the village areas as modern technology may not be the alternative where illetrate masses are still helpless with out post mail.

Postman is the guy who brings good news and also sad news. He also gets money order and checks. Postal Service cannot be compared to Telegram. Telegram is a short and emergency message. Postal service is all over the world. Postal service is cheaper than courier service. Postal service is used to do internet business. Postman is the guy who delivers it. This postman is doing a short cut job instead of delivering it he is disposing it. This postman is irresponsible and does not want to do his job. He needs to be terminated and punished as it is a federal crime to trash important letters, documents and other valuable papers of the Public. In front of the Vidhana Soudha building it is inscribed with the words Government's Work is God's Work. The post man is a Government employee paid by the public tax money. So the Postman thinks it is God's Work and not his. So he is throwing up the precious letters and not taking the responsibility to do his job.

The public should have beaten up the postman and then handed over to the authorities. This would ensure that he never would repeat this act. I guess its only in India we have postman, like telegram this too will soon be phased out.

LOOKS STRANGE HERE. POSTMAN'S ARE VERY STRICT IN THEIR DUTY LIKE INDIAN ARMY.

BECAUSE OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY, E SERVICES, SMS, EMAIL, ETC. I AM SURE IN NEAR FUTURE POST SERVICE WILL ALSO STOP PERMANENTLY LIKE TELEGRAM.
