Mangalore: Will raise Niddodi project issue in Parliament - Nalin Kumar

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (BG)

Mangalore, Jul 23: MP of Mangalore constituency Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday July 22 visited the areas supposed to be affected by the proposed Niddodi ultra mega power plant and held talks with officials and the locals.

Speaking to the media persons he said, "Niddodi is the land of agriculture. Hence it is not right to implement the power plant project in Niddodi and thereby snatch away the daily bread of many. The central and the state governments should intervene and stop the project."

He further added, "I do not want to mix politics with this fight. It is the responsibility of the elected representatives to fight against this project, especially as it is very dangerous to the environment of this region. As I do not have the exact statistics about the project and the officers concerned are not responding positively, I will go ahead and raise the question in the Parliament on August 5.

"I will not allow the project to materialize at any cost," he asserted.

President of Matrubhoomi Samrakshana Samiti Alphonse D'Souza said that the administration is trying to hide the reality from the common man. "If we go ahead and ask the officials concerned for information on the project, they shoo us off with the phrase "information not available".

"On July 16 of this month some officials had come to survey the area without any notice. When asked, they tried to hide the reality. Due to the intervention of media we learnt that they had come for the power project survey. We also learnt from some sources that the DC had told them not to disclose any information to the public," he said.

He also told Nalin Kumar that there should be no politics in this matter, to which, the MP responded, "Yes, there is no question of politics here. I will fight for the people and make sure that the project is scraped. I am determined to fight till the goal is achieved."

He also accepted Alphonse D'Souza's request to schedule a meeting with union minister of state for power Jyotiraditya Scindia so that they could discuss their problems with him directly.

A hunger strike has been planned for July 28 from 6 am to 6 pm at Niddodi market in opposition to the project.

    Mr. Lohit Pinto, Bajpe/Bangalore
We are interested in our MP who could ask questions in Parliament with a communicable language. UPA head although alien to HINDI she made efforts to learn and speak in Parliament. Our MP is a sloth who does not know either Hindi or English. In Japan every citizen speaks Japanese where as in our country the communicable languages are Hindi/English.

Naleen Kumar Kateel can use 'sign language' in Parliament.

The blueprint was drawn up during the BJP rule in Karnataka. The then DK & Udupi BJP MLA's wanted it somewhere in between DK & Udupi Districts. So Niddodi (as the location) was settled for. Let Naleen Kumar Kateel not fool the people of DK & Udupi Districts. This is probably his first and last term as an MP.

The people of Mangalore made a big mistake during last LS election. We missed such a well educated, experienced congress candidate who could have definitely done some great things for south kanara. Due to hindutva agenda, his own community people did not vote him.And the result is we have this MP who stand up tall now and then makes promises.

It is not only the mistake of Mangaloreans to elect him but Nalin himself committed the mistake without actually knowing what are the job description of a MP.He was under the impresion that his job is only to get stiched few pares of while kurta pyjama to wear and attend Parilament by sitting in his alloted seat wearing a suffron shawl round his neck.By actually knowing what was going on in the Parliament,he might be asking 'inchla unda marre?'

Developments are required but at what cost.
Is there any committee who will monitor the progress and developments in and around.
The compensation is still pending which was to be paid for the residents of nagarjuna project.
Did you see the fly ash being poluted the environment in and around that area.
Who will monitor those issues. who will be held responsible.
Some one has earned huge amounts of Bribed money and approved the project without even may be surveying the locality.

When there is a development it also brings with a tag of counter effects. Can we stop producing electricity because it adds to pollution? Can we stop using vehicles because it emits smoke?

How many of us can live without electricity? If we are against the power projects then we have no right to use electricity produced elsewhere because the people there also are affected by the power project.

We are selfish. We do not want pollute our environment but we want power. Whenever there is a power cut we blame government but we do not allow the government to put any project in our locality. What is this logic?

Instead of this, it would be appropriate to fight for the implementation of the project with all safeguards in place such as proper effluent treatment plants, safe disposal of ashes etc. so that the damage to the environment is minimal.

Some blame BJP government for proposing the project and some blame Congress for plans to implement the project. No development is possible without damage to environment one way or other. At the best we can minimise the damage to environment by using best technology available.

Alternatively each home should have own solar power/wind power installed and then we can all fight together against such projects in our locality.

Nalin is nothing but fooling the people of the area as part of stretegy to meet LS elections in 2014.To put the things straight, the people of the area, if ther really serious about the forthcoming project, should ask the MP as to what he was doing when the plan of mega thermal power project was intially iniitiated by his own party/government in Karnataka where he is VP of the state unit. Now shedding cocodile tears is nothing but an attempt to fool the local innocent people. What will be your position if Mr.Sciendia asks about your role in the prohject as party VP in the state? How you will face him?

Intentinally these dangerous projects are shifted to our Tulu Nadu as a plan of having all the dangerous companies, power projects in Tulu nadu. The only solution to this helplessness of Tulu Nadu is to have a separate state. Why should only Niddodi people fight against this project? Why not all the people of Tulu Nadu?
