Kasargod, Jul 23: The government of Kerala will award Rs 3 lac to the MBBS student who was kidnapped and gang-raped at Manipal, Udupi last month.

The girl, a student of Manipal University, hails from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. On the night of June 20, she was allegedly kidnapped by three men in an auto rickshaw and raped. She was in hospital for the next two weeks before going back to Kerala.

The Kerala government has announced that it will be releasing Rs 3 lac for the girl under the central government's Nirbhaya fund.

She is being awarded this fund as she has bravely overcome the cruelty meted out to her by her persecutors and shown courage in dealing with the tragedy, said official sources.

Sunitha Krishnan, advisor for Nirbhaya project in Kerala, had appealed to the government to award the fund to the Manipal student. Based on her recommendation, the state government decided to provide Rs 3 lac in recognition of the student's bravery.

A week after the incident took place, the police arrested Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand on June 27. Yogish and Anand attempted suicide just before their arrests and were admitted to Manipal hospital. Presently, all three are lodged in Shimoga jail under judicial custody till July 29. Two more persons, brothers of Yogish and Hariprasad have been arrested for destroying evidence and are now in Hiriadka jail.

Ridiculous ! Her folks are based abroad and she must have coughed up hefty capitation fees to get into KMC. Keralites are born politicians and whichever party heads the state tries to gain political mileage at every opportunity.

    Dear all!
    It is simple mathematics!
If I have 30 lakhs. then I can rape 10 young girls and get away from it?.
What an irony! Are we living in a civilized world or in the wild?
I sympathies with the young girl.I wish her all the best in her life.
I expect a comment from Mr. Bhandarkar on this.

A stupid action from Chandy & Co. It's nothing but, a political stunt and publicity gimmick. But, he proved he is a stupid! It is first of it's kind - an offer to a rape victim. I didn't heard of ever since. Daily how many rapes, happens in Kerala, and out of in how many cases the government compensated?
For the victim, this there lac is like peanut. Less than her pocket money. After all, how they measure, how they price? I can't imagine!
three lac because, she was raped for 3 hours? Idiots....
If so, he has to pay more than 960 lacs to Suryanelli rape victim. Because, she was raped more than 40 days. It is more 17 years now, how mush they compensate? It is an insult to whole womankind!

If Chandy & Co., continue to award the same all the call girls based in Mangalore, Udupi and Manipal may migrate to Gods own country and like to be raped! Because govt. giving awards, certificates etc...

Getting justice is one thing, but securing a good future is another thing. The girl is currently like a tainted doll. For her future life, apart from money, she needs a good, understanding and caring partner, to forget the bitter memories and lead a decent life. Lacking this, the bitter memory will haunt her all though her life (for no fault of hers). Can the Government help the situation??

There is a need to create fear in the pervert minds so as to stop such incidents reoccuring, about which the Govt. should think seriously and prove with stringent measures.

Instead of Giving 3 Lak Rupees to Rape victim in Karnataka, they have help the people who raped in Kerala. In Kerala each and everything linked with politics. They will agitate for new Industries in Kerala because of pollution, They may agitate for Dams in Kerala which the people will lose land. But they will visit other states or country if their people are affected (Ministers were visiting Saudi Arabia). They will support new Industries in other states ( They want to supply their people for work) but they are against setting any industry in their state( even Coca cola plant was closed). If Kerala politicians are very serious of their own people, they must encourage new Industries( to get job to their youths. At present most of the Keralities are working outside Kerala), they must set colleges for their own people( most of the Kerala students are studying outside Kerala) and instead of borrowing water or power they must set dams and produce electricity and water.

WHATEVER DONE UNTO THE SUFFERING IS DEAR TO ME...
THOU 3 LAKHS SEEM MEAGRE, THOU THIS MAY BE A DELAYED GRACE IT IS STILL A SOLACE..
    IT IS NOT MONEY...
A GIRL IN KMC MAY BE MUCH MORE WORTH THAN THAT AND MAY DONATE THE MONEY STRAIGHT AWAY TO CHARITY...
IT IS THE SPIRIT OF SOLIDARITY...
THOU WE MAY NEVER BE ABLE TO BRING THE SAME UNSUSPECTING SMILE ON HER FACE EVER AGAIN, WE MUST NOT BE INSENSITIVE TOWARDS THE POSITIVES THAT ARE EXTENDED FROM ANY CARING CORNER...

I mean so many nuns, sisters are raped in Kerala and nothing happens.Everything is hushed up.I forget the name, but there was an incident which had rocked Kerala a few years back -In a convent where a young sister was killed to prevent her from 'spilling the beans'.
When it happens here, suddenly a team from Kerala comes here to study the 'technicalities of rape' and goes. This is because the girl is a Keralite.?We have thank God for small mercies though. They did not announce the compensation money to the Auto Drivers.

I feel the elected leaders should think wise while making any announcement on sensitive issues. The victim of manipal is a very very sensitive issue and the Kerala Govt. making cash announcement is absolute wrong and disappointing. The victim needs counselling, love and affection from her near and dear ones to come out of this tragedy. It will take a year. Paying compensation is not the method as it does not console human heart and mind. Instead all rapists should be put behind bars for life till death than only for 7 years. Rape and Acid attacks on women is a scar for life so also punishment for such criminals should be followed. If we introduce strict laws against these criminals mark my words we can stop the financial compensation which is not the solution but adding insult to injury.

Don’t make the student so cheap by giving Rs. 3 lacs as a award. A student studying medicine at KMC, Manipal must have paid more than Rs. 40 lacs as donation to the college. So it is clear that just Rs. 3 lacs is not going to help her or her parents in any way. What can help her is the true justice punishing the culprits in the strictest manner so that no one dare not to repeat such heinous crime in the future.Kerala Govt. must try for such rewards and awards and not Rs. 3 lacs as a great thing.

It is the duty of Karnataka Govt and NOT Kerala Govt to give compensation..Forget about Karnataka Govt, even girl's own educational management didn't accept it as rape ! They should have asked her to continue studies in Manipal bearing all expenses..

It must be a joke by the Kerala Govt. how much have they given to the famous political rape case in their state over 40 people were involved, and in this case they don't need money they need justice, and the criminals have been shifted to Shimoga, so that the people in the undivided district will forget about it and the culprits will be set free or else who knows must be leading a comfortable life, as they have enough political clot
