Udupi, Jul 25: The annual ‘Aati Maari Puja’, at Shree Hale Mariyamma, Shree Hosa Marigudi and Shree Moorane Mariyamma Temples at Kaup was celebrated on July 23 and 24 with much fervour.

Thousands of devotees attended the Maari Puja despite heavy rains.

‘Maari Puja’ is held in all the three Temples dedicated to Goddess Mariamma in the months of ‘Aati’, ‘Jarde’ and ‘Suggi’, as per the Tulunadu calendar.

Devotees from Dakshina Kannada, Kasargod, Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Malnad districts and also from Maharashtra flocked to the Temples.

During the puja, nearly 50,000 chickens were sold in the chicken stalls while a few devotees offered their own domestic chickens as sacrifice to Goddess. The chicken offered as sacrifice is cleaned at the cleaning stalls located close to the Temples. Like every year, the stalls were crowded.
