Puttur, Jul 26: In yet another incident of flare up within college campus, a fight erupted between two communal groups over a petty issue at Uppinangady Government First Grade College.

It is said that three days ago, a boy pulled at a girl's hair and she complained to her brother. Angered by the act, the brother on Thursday July 25 and questioned the boy for pulling the girl's hair. An argument arose which soon snowballed into a clash between two groups.College principal Dr Subramanya K who came to know about the incident informed Uppinangady police station.

Five students taken into custody

Police who visited the college took five students into custody, three of whom were admitted to hospital.
Condemning this action, other students created a scene in front of the police station. When the students intensified their protest, police resorted to lathi charge.

Later, circle inspector Suresh Kumar called heads of two communal groups and held discussion with them. Kemmar Ummar, gram panchayat member Abdul Rahiman, Ibrahim, Salim Nekkilady, Tanjal Laxminagar, zilla panchayat member Keshava Gowda were part of the meeting.

SP's visit

Dakshina Kannada SP Abhishek Goyal, additional SP Shivakumar, Puttur assistant commissioner H Prasanna visited the police station and investigated.

"The actual culprits behind the incident will be punished," said SP Abhishek Goyal to a delegation led by Uppinangady block congress vice-president Ashraf Bastikar.

The girl student in her complaint to Uppinangady police said that she was harassed by Ranjith.

Complaint filed against 18 students

Reacting to the incident, college principal said that a complaint against 18 students who were involved in the fight was lodged. As per the order by district joint director, holidays have been declared for two days. Discussions will be held with directors and further actions will be taken, he said.

The incident comes close on the heels of a fight among students at Vittal Government First Grade College wherein four students were injured.

How dare the boy to pull girl's hair ? With this character we can make out which group he belongs to. Principal has done the right thing by calling police. Otherwise, this goonda organization of ABVP will demand his transfer. The boy is unworthy to be called as a student. He is entering the class to create trouble under the advise/guidance of his Masters. Better keep him away from college. My sympathies with girl and her family.

This is a bad incident and handled too badly. This incident should have solved amicably cautioning the boy instead of making a issue.Girl is involved in this incident and over publicity and over reaction may harm her future becuse it is delicate.Thanq.

In every college and every class there are handful of rowdies who think they are superior to others. Some of them are “ameer baap ke bigde huwe bacche”. These guys have some “chelas” too, who always follow them like in our Bollywood movies. In colleges where there is co-education, these rowdies are heroes. They are not only headache for college professors but also for many girls. They seem to be attending classes to enjoy than its real purpose. This is a typical scenario of every college.

I think if the concerned girl lodged her complaint with her College Principal instead of informing the issue to her brother, the issue would not have been as big as it is now. I don’t think any brother would tolerate someone teasing his sister. Now that the police know the culprit, they should not let him go so easily.

I think this is the first time I am hearing about communal riots between students. Because of one stupid guy, the peace in the college campus is disturbed. Before this wildfire spreads to other colleges, it should be brought under control. For me this seems to be just a beginning. The prelude has already been written. The fire could flare up again at any time on a trivial issue.

A piece of advice to our students: Don’t communalize the educational institution and don’t take “advices” from communal organizations, who are hell bent to spread the fire of hatred. The victims may or may not belong to your religion but always support them and marginalize the culprits.

Fights among students is common in college/school life. Principal/teachers should solve the issues, it should not allow to go Police station, here it seems principal didn't take action?, so it become public issue.

This cancer in the name of religion has spread even among the young generation, has created tension in all the education centres. Only religious leaders from both the communities can try to solve it. Remember no politicians are interested to diffuse it, on the contrary they want this to continue. Elections are approaching!

    Oh..Oh... O girl!
I, mean we used to sing ourselves
and sometimes when girls passed by in our College Campus.Girls used to look at us approvingly and march off.No mobile numbers then, no messages..everything through eyes and signs! All of the times...songs were a hit! I used to write them you see! Never once did we get hit!
My dialogues were also very very strong then..Now little weaki must admit.
But now look at the transition!Oh! My God! Police in campus. Communal groups?Girl's Hair Pulled? Is this the price one has to pay for being 'more advanced' or civilized?

But unfortunalty the college prinicpal didnot take any action after the complains lodged by the girls brother and then anger students raised the voice against principal and the situation raised up. Pulled girl's hair in college campus means what? then no security in campus for girls? why not principal didnot take any action against the culprits? strange!!!
