Bangalore: Man beats 8-year-old daughter to death

Bangalore: Jul 27 (DHNS): It’s another case of a young life snuffed out at the hands of those who were supposed to take care of her.

An eight-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father here on Thursday. Reason: The Class II student couldn’t memorise her lessons.

The West division police arrested Sathyanarayana Singh after he confessed to have beaten his daughter, Neha Singh, in a fit of rage for not studying properly.

Police sources said he had hit the girl with a rolling pin.  Neha was the accused’s daughter from his first marriage.

Sathyanarayana, however, tried to shift the blame on a stranger. He claimed that somebody beat up Neha when she went to a nearby shop and that she collapsed on returning home. Sathyanarayana said Neha died by the time she was rushed to hospital.

The police were, however, alerted by a neighbour who suspected foul play.

“The circumstances under which the girl was found dead were mysterious. One of their neighbours alerted us. We grew suspicious after coming to know of the man’s background. He was accused of killing his first wife for dowry. The girl was his daughter from the first marriage. He said he beat the girl with a cane and she collapsed thereafter.

We have booked him for murder,” said Duggappa, ACP (Kengeri Gate sub-division). The body, which bore several injury marks, was taken to Victoria Hospital for autopsy.Sathyanarayana was married to Asha Singh, who died in 2006. Her parents Raghunath and Vasantha Singh, residents of Shimoga, had alleged dowry death. Sathyanarayana was subsequently arrested. After spending around six months in prison, he was acquitted.

Neha was only 10 months old then. Asha’s parents took her to Shimoga. After being released from prison, Sathyanarayana started a plastic mould factory in Timber Yard and married again. He was living with his mother Padma Bai, second wife and a one-and-a-half-year-old son from the second marriage.

Sathyanarayana had not visited Neha even once in the past seven years. In May, he suddenly turned up at Shimoga, claiming custody of his daughter. Raghunath told Deccan Herald that Sathyanarayana promised to take good care of the child. “We did not relent. He said as he had not divorced my daughter, he was the rightful custodian of the girl.

We unwillingly sent her. The girl could not adjust there. She had never seen her father before. She complained that her father and grandmother were harassing her and pleaded us to take her back. We thought that she would eventually adjust. But he killed her, like my daughter. He is a demon,” Raghunath said.  In his statement to the police, Sathyanarayana said when he asked Neha, a class II student at SGM school in Avalahalli, some questions from her notes, she could not answer. He asked Neha to learn her lessons properly. The family left for a temple in the afternoon, leaving her alone at home to study. He claimed to have found Neha asleep on returning home. An enraged Sathyanarayana then beat her up with a baton.

D Rajappa, DCP (West), told Deccan Herald that the Byatarayanapura police have registered a case of murder and arrested Sathyanarayana. The police are investigating into the role of Padma Bai and his second wife, he added.

Some time i feel there should be a organization like raj thakre in mumbai to look after like these incidents.Punish those people in a harsher harshest manner in public immediately. Why i gave this example because i fed up with our judiciary system, police, court, etc watching this with blind eyes.when public starts punishing the wrong doers government, police, court all work with open eyes.(KANOON ANDHAH HOTHA NAHI HAI,KANOON KO DHIKTA BHI HAI)

I do not think he killed because she did not study. He was circled by many many created problems. 1St he killed his wife and then second marriage and other problems etc etc. He was frustrated about his own evil doings. Girl became only a victim to release his frustration. She was a easiest cake for him to release his headaches on her as she cannot protest back. I do not think police must release him anymore. Full life imprisonment to be given to this man for double murder.RIP little child.

He was accused of dowry death of his first wife and he was acquitted after spending six months in prison!! Indian judiciary system let the monster live happily with his second wife!! The first time murdering anybody is very hard to killer if the system let him live then second murder is easier to him. This is human nature. if he is acquitted once again for this surely he will do the same. Indian judiciary system give very light punishment to the culprits. whenever happens this kind of crime we all shout kill him or stone him to death. then we forget and oppose the death penalty which sentence is given only for very rare case. So India should implement law of Saudi Arabia. It is not barbaric but it is a mercy and peace to so many innocent nehas and nirbhayas.

WHAT IS THE NECESSITY TO MAKE OUR CHILDREN ONLY DOCTORS AND ENGINEERS...
MODERN AGE SMALL ANGELS ARE UNDER TREMENDOUS PRESSURE...
NO WONDER IF WE START WITNESSING CHILD SUICIDES...
ALLOW THEM A FAIR SHARE OF PLAY AND HUMOUR...
ALLOW THEM TO BE WHAT THEY ARE...
    ALLOW THEM TO LIVE...
PRIMARY SCHOOL PERFORMANCE HAS NO CONSEQUENCE ON WHAT A PERSON ULTIMATELY TURNS OUT TO BE...
    THEY ARE NOT CIRCUS ANIMALS...
PLEASE ALLOW CHILDREN TO BE CHILDREN...

Not legal, but still Sometimes i feel the best punishment for such cases is just handover the culprit to public. He'll never forget the treatment throughout his life. because he should still face 'public' till death.

    RIP baby Neha...

What is most hurtful and heartbreaking is " she complained that her father and grandmother were harassing her and pleaded us to take her back" How could the grandparents keep quiet and not take immediate action. Probably they thought she would be a burden. Could any of you ignore the plea if it were you in their shoes?

How could this beast kill his own child ? What a pretty and innocent Angel ? There are many people who pray all their life to have a child and this merciless animal killed God's gift ? He has no right to live in this world. May God bless little Angel's soul with mercy and compassion. You will always be in my prayer little darling, Neha.

RIP Neha, very sad .. the death in the hands of a father. It is due to the anger.
I have come across some parents who beat their children for not doing well in studies and later they keep crying for what they have done. The parents regret for their action and some other time they do the same thing due to uncontrollable anger. So
Counselling of the Parents to control the anger is required. Very Very sad

People are so callous and innpscent isn't it? The grand parents should have run from pillar to post, than release sucha a tiny girl to the abusive father? Can they absolve themselves?
And, there are two women in his own home? Can they close the eyes?

Society has to just wake up, and understand their role in preventing crime and injustice. We can't claim, it is his house, his affairs.
Will neha forgive all those around her, who could have been her life savers?

Shame on all of us, who think that 'it is their home affair, i can't interfere'. And the police, lesser said the better. They have absolutely no idea, about their role, their empowerment, the law of the land. They would love to harass meek and humble, law abiding people, thworing their weight around - literally. Had they been alert, many times, many lives can be saved. Do I see a future for India -many times not.
Do I want to admit it - no, for fear of discouraging my own children, and those few who think I think positive.

It is quite clear, he bought the child back to take revenge, memorising studies was just an excuse. Really sad for the child. innocent children have to die and tormented unnecessarily just becos of extra marital affairs, fighting, cheating between parents. I AM SURPRISED SOME NEIGHBOURS ALSO, PRETEND AND IGNORE IF A CHILD IS BEING ILLTREATED BY STEP PARENTS AND SOMETIMES EVEN THEIR OWN BIOLOGICAL PARENTS TILL THE CHILD LOOSES HIS/HER LIFE OR PARALYSED LIFTIME. REMEMBER, CHILDREN ARE PHYSICALLY VERY WEAK TO FIGHT CRUEL ADULT WORLD

WHAT ABOUT THIS ANGEL ? DOES SHE NOT MATTER TO US ? I AM SURE SHE IS ALREADY LIKE ONE MORE VERY BEAUTIFUL FLOWER TO BLOOM IN GOD'S GARDEN.

I HOPE THE LAW GIVES THE HARSHEST PUNISHMENT TO THE PERSON WHO HAS COMMITTED SUCH AN EVIL DEED.
