Dubai's ruler offers clothing to 3 million children in 25 countries

Dubai, Jul 31 (PTI):
Dubai's ruler has distributed cloths to three million underprivileged children in 25 countries, including India, under a humanitarian campaign launched during the Muslim Holy month of Ramadan.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the campaign on July 11 to dress one million needy children across the world. However, the total number of beneficiaries reached to three million, three times more than the planned figure.

The initiative concluded on Monday (19th Ramadan) when the UAE marked the Zayed Humanitarian Day and 9th death anniversary of its founding father late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

According to a statement released by the UAE's official news agency WAM, the number of recipients of Sheikh Mohammed's donation was doubled to 3 million from the initially planned 1.5 million.

"Engagement of the generous UAE people with the campaign has resulted in bringing joy to 3 million children on the Eid in addition to slew of initiatives that will benefit other millions around the world, establishing the UAE as a capital of charity," said Sheikh Mohammed.

He praised the efforts made by the UAE Red Crescent Authority, which is executing the campaign, and other organisations supporting it.

The campaign has reached out to the needy children in Bosnia, Albania, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Djibouti, Senegal, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Malawi, Jordan, India and Pakistan in addition to Syrian refugee children in Jordan and Lebanon.

In addition, the clothes would also be given to children in the Philippines, Iraq, Somalia, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was once asked by a UK reporter when Dubai was booming at a very fast pace. " This development can go at a slower pace . All projects need not be uted simultaneously and with such speed. You can complete it in the next 20 years. Why are you hell bent on developing everything at once?" so he had replied, " I know everything can wait, but I want my people to live life today. Not after 20 years".

Mind you there are more expats in dubai than the local population and when he says his people he means everyone who lives in Dubai both locals and expats.

Wish our politicians had half the will of this great man. India would be a great country

    Greatly touching news. His Highness
Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
could make 3 million children happy and their tears joy along with the tears of joy of their families will pour upon the great ruler of Dubai as showers of blessings
with long life-health and happiness. I hope and pray that the rich people all over the world may undertake such projects of charity in feeding the hungry-clothing the naked and educating the illiterate, if so the world would have been a far blessed place.
    MAY GOD BLESS HIS HIGHNESS.

H.E Sheikh Mohammed is certainly a man with a vision and a great personality and I always feel good to read about his ideas campaigns and initiatives..not only with respect to leadership, governance, but also initiatives like these to help the poor and needy even across the borders.

His simplicity and generousness has made him the best leader.
The best part is that the public comes out to donate to the maximum when leaders like him call for.

Wish him the best and pray to Allah to bless him to keep helping.

Good gesture, let us pray God give him health & more wealth..Also let us not forget our Azim premji of WIPRO who donated 3 Billion dollars (around 25% of his wealth) for charity and Dr.Yusuf Hamied of CIPLA PHARMA who contributed large portion of his wealth for charity..Because of his efforts cost of life saving drugs (cancer,HIV etc,.) reduced considerably in Asia & african countries

Great gesture and a philanthropic deed.

Wish India’s big business houses (multi Billionaires) will follow this example rather than amassing unaccounted wealth.

We should be grateful to these Arab countries for giving us an opportunity to work on their land. It's a big blessing for millions of expatriates who are working in the Gulf.

God personally will not come to the world to help the needy. He appoints us for his purpose. Very few discharge their duties and responsibilities, but, others neglect/undermine it. May god bless Dubai ruler with more wealth and health. Wish our miser, filthy rich Indians learn something from Dubai ruler and contribute part of their wealth towards betterment of needy and downtrodden, instead of building tallest buildings for their families and accumulating wealth for themselves.

In India, we are killing our own under priveleged children by giving them free poisonous meals. Shows how much we care for our future citizens when we cant provide them the basic things like Roti, Kapda aur Makaan.
And there, we have an absolute stranger donating to our under priveleged children.
I wonder how many more years will our politicians loot our country without feeling any remorse or guilt?
