JNU student dies, classmate he attacked still critical


New Delhi, Jul 31 (IANS): A 23-year-old student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who attempted suicide after attacking a woman classmate died Wednesday, a police officer said.

The man had slit his throat and consumed poison after injuring his classmate with a sharp object. The 22-year-old victim, identified as Roshani, is in a critical condition at the Safdarjung Hospital.

The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. in room number 213 of the School Of Languages.

The man was identified as Akash. Both the attacker and the victim were from Bihar.

"Akash was taken to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre, and he died after a few hours. Roshani was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where she is still in critical condition," a senior police officer said.

"We have recovered a country made pistol, a bottle of poisonous substance and an axe from the spot," the police officer said.
