Bangalore: Home minister orders fresh CID probe into Sowjanya murder case

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore

Bangalore, Jul 31: The higher officers of CID will conduct a fresh probe into the rape and murder case of Sowjanya, the 17-year-old student who was found dead at Pangala near Dharmathala in early October last year.

The announcement was made by home minister K J George in the state Assembly, in reply to Vasanth Bangera who raised the issue.

K J George further said that the probe will be undertaken by higher officials of the CID and the DIG will be told to execute the order.

Also, enquiry will be ordered against Beltangady inspector Yogish Kumar, and if found guilty, he would be suspended from duty.

Raising the issue, Bangera said that inspector Yogish Kumar had put together a string of false information and diverted the path of probe.

"A day prior to the incident, there was heavy rainfall in Pangala. But the Sowjanya's clothes and books were dry and there was not even a hint of dampness. Not a single leaf in the bushes had been moved (which would have been the case if the spot of crime and the spot where her body was found were the same)," said Bangera, adding that these points have only been included in the case.

He urged the home minister to remove inspector Yogish from the case and appoint a competent officer in his place.

MLA Shakuntala Shetty too echoed Bangera and said that what Bangera said was true. "Sowjanya's nature was true to her name. Her body was found just as Bangera described. She was murdered elsewhere and her body dumped in another spot. Only competent officers must take up this probe," she urged.

Daughter of Chandappa Gowda, Sowjanya was found brutally raped and murdered on October 10, 2012 at Pangala near Dharmasthala in Beltangady. Her body was found among the bushes in a forest area. The CoD had begun a probe following public pressure, but so far the investigation has not borne positive results.

I earnestly hope this case which was not properly attended to by the previous Govt. officials, will be solved soonest.
Home Minister does care about all these matters and he has shown alacrity in every case since his Govt. came to power.
I wish him and his staff every success in their work to bring justice to all.

All these probes are a way of delaying and systematically allowing the file to go to the dustbin box. If they wanted to nab the culprits, they would have nabbed them by now
