Pork, horse meat found in canned products in Bahrain

Manama, August 1 (IANS): Bahrain's health ministry has removed from market scores of canned meat products after a probe revealed they were "contaminated" with horse meat and pork.

The ministry earlier launched an investigation to collect samples of meat from the local markets, which were tested at its laboratories, Xinhua reported.

After testing 172 products, including minced meat, burgers and frozen meat, the ministry said it found horse meat and pork mixed with beef in several canned products.

"A total of 22 contaminated imported and processed meat products were found in the market. 16 products were found to have horse meat and six with pork," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said it will intensify tests of imported meat products to ensure they are "halal" (permissible to be eaten by Muslims).

    Horse meat is not a bad meat tastes like Beef they say.its not the taste but cheating I say.we too here in Germany had this case of mixing in mince meat of Beef.there are some People everywhere who try to make Money.there were cases of horse meat in canned,lasagne(ready made cool product)burger etc.coming from other countries like Rumänien going Italien slaughter house returning somewhereelse for Distribution .The way is Long cant catch particular Person.

    It is like local butter in Karnataka - adulterated with fats from meat -
    they had shown a program on that once on the TV.

    These products are definitely not from India, as Horses are rare and pork is much more expensive than beef.

    How one can ensure the processed meat is Halal or Haram.? Taste is more important.
