Mumbai, Aug 1: According to reliable sources in the I &B ministry there are plans afoot to ban the term ‘item song’ from mainstream cinema’s menu. Instead Bollywood can now dance to special songs.
And that’s precisely what the petite pretty and demure Shradha Kapoor has done in Rensil d’Silva’s Unglee. Her ‘item song’ has nothing item-like about it.
Says a source, “Initially Shradha was a little apprehensive about stepping into the item song slot in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Shradha had seen Katrina Kaif’s Chikni Chameli and was not sure she could fit the fill. But since Shradha plays one of the two female leads in Dharma’s Gori Tere Pyar Mein Karan convinced Shradha to trust him.”
Apparently Shradha was ensured that none of the pelvic thrusts from Chikni Chameli would be employed in her item...sorry, special song in Unglee. Choreographer Caesar was advised to keep the steps “clean and fun, naughty but never vulgar.”
Shradha Kapoor is not quite the oomph girl that her contemporaries strive to be. The trade and promiment filmmakers compare her to Jaya Bhaduri for the transparency she displayed in her emotions in Aashiqui 2.
According to sources, the special song in Unglee is not about oomph .
“It’s about nailing the lyrics with the right expressions, the way Mumtaz used to perform her celebrated dances,” says the source.
Says director Rensil d’Silva, “Shradha has surprised everyone including herself with her dancing skills. She is very good.”
