New Delhi, August 1 (IANS): The JNU student who is in critical condition after being savagely attacked by a male colleague was never in a relationship with the attacker, her brother said Thursday.

Sudhir Gupta said Akash, who committed suicide after attacking his sister Roshni, had been "after her for a long time".

"My sister was never in a relationship with the boy. But he was hell bent on starting a relationship with her," Gupta told IANS.

Akash attacked Roshni with an axe in a room in the School of Languages at the Jawaharlal Nehru University here Wednesday.

"My sister was very intelligent," Gupta said. He said Roshni, a student of the School of International Studies, stood first last year.

He said doctors had told him that while there was "movement in her hand and eyes, she remains critical".

Roshni, admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital, has four deep injuries on her skull while the blood vessels to her brain have been damaged.
