Mangalore: Special squad to catch cattle thieves - Mohiuddin Bava

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Aug 3: In the wake of increasing cases of cattle theft, the city police commissioner has been asked to form a special squad to hunt down the thieves and prevent such incidents, said Mangalore North MLA Mohiuddin Bava.

Speaking to reporters on Friday August 2, he condemned cattle theft and said, "Because of such thieves, families that depend on cattle for their livelihood and sustenance are put in great difficulty. Police have been instructed to arrest the culprits at the earliest."

He further said, "There is no question of protecting the culprits for any reason whatsoever. Acts that attempt to disrupt peace and communal harmony in district will not be tolerated.

"There has been allegation that I have been giving protection to cattle thieves. This is utterly false. I have already put pressure on police to arrest the culprits immediately," he said.

"Discussions will be held with the police regarding increase in security at night," he added.

"There have been complaints about illegal slaughter houses running in various places, and appropriate action will be taken against them," he assured.

Meanwhile, the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) held a protest at Suratkal slamming the Congress government for playing vote bank politics and not implementing blanket ban on cow slaughter.

VHP vice-president M B Puranik said that during the BJP government's regime, when efforts were made to tighten law against cow slaughter, the governor had refused to pass any resolution for political gain. "Ever since Congress formed the government, instances of cattle theft and slaughter have increased alarmingly," he said.

Minorities Yuva Morcha vice-president Franklin Monteiro and others were present.

In DK cattle is more precious than human life. People never raise voice against poor. Go to Nehru maidan and agitate to provide shelters for the poor people who sleep on the pavement at night. They will pray and you may get reward from the almighty. Who is spending for the go-shalas? Have the same sympathy and provide shelters to the poor in name of humanity. A good muslim will not buy the meat if he knows animal is a stolen one. Nor the thief is doing any good thing to his community. He is only after money.

Stealing anything by any person is an offence and such rouges should be dealt with as per the law. According to me all the Mosques in the region, during the Friday prayers, should condemn this cowardly act and request the community members to act as a whistle blower and help maintain the law and order in the region.
It is purely a law & order problem and the accused should be severely dealt with for stealing cattle and also creating communal disharmony in the society.
But in any given situation, the Sangh Parivar have no right to take law into their hand and act like a Moral Police instead let them too help the police in catching such notorious cattle thieves.
