Anil, Arjun make up for Sonam's absence at DCW

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IANS): Actor Anil Kapoor and his actor nephew Arjun Kapoor added glamour to designer Masaba Gupta's 'demi-couture' showcase at the ongoing Delhi Couture Week (DCW) here.

Arjun said they made up for Masaba's regular client Sonam Kapoor's absence, and got a rare chance to spend time together.

Arjun, son of film producer Boney Kapoor, wore a traditional black sherwani teamed with a white churidaar, while his paternal uncle Anil wore a subtly printed black sherwani jazzed up with a kundan-polki broach at the show, held here Friday night.

Anil's daughter and Arjun's cousin Sonam is a fan of Masaba's quirky designs. But the uncle-nephew duo more than made up for her absence with their lively and confident demeanour on the ramp.

"We are here because Sonam Kapoor couldn't come. So we thought why to miss the opportunity. Also, it's always good to walk the ramp wearing such nice outfits and everyone cheering for you," Arjun told reporters here.

"I'm a big fan of Anil chacha (uncle) and I am thankful to Masaba that she gave us this opportunity because I never get to spend time with him. We always get busy with shoots and other stuff. So, today we got to travel together, be with each other and discuss various subjects.

"When I was backstage and heard the cheer...I could feel that he is still a big superstar," he added.

Speaking of his experience of sauntering down the ramp, Anil, 56, said: "It was 30 or 35 years ago that I had first walked the ramp for Vimal Creations when Dhirubhai Ambani was alive. It's always fun to walk the ramp, and Sonam keeps giving me fashion advice."

"Fashion" director Madhur Bhandarkar also added a bit of the Bollywood quotient to the show as he sat on the front row, and appreciated the designs.

"The show was good. The clothing, texture and designs were good too," said Bhandarkar.

Masaba, the fashion director at luxury clothing brand Satya Paul, said that her collection catered to the modern bride who doesn't mind wearing white and black on her D-day.

White and black was used with hints of red and blue for the collection, which consisted of saris, cocktail gowns and fishtail skirts with coats.

About the fabrics used, Masaba said: "I had used fabrics like organza, crepe, chiffon and georgette. My collection is for a modern bride and I hope the collection sets a trend for forthcoming wedding season. Also, there's no embroidery done on the garments. I have X-rayed prints like botanical flowers," said Masaba.

The garments were accessorised with pieces by PC Jewellers at the show, which was organised by the Fashion Design Council of India.
