Bantwal, Aug 5: In a unique protest, villagers in the vicinity of Kuddupadavu Balashetty Moole Road on Sunday August 4 took to planting plantains in the middle of the road, demanding the repair of the road which was constructed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Project.

As the then Mangalore MP D V Sadananda Gowda had recommended the repair of Kuddupadavu-Pervai-Balashetty Moole road, a company from Konaje had undertaken the project to repair the 8.74 km road at a cost of Rs 399.55 lac. Under the supervision of Mangalore Project sub-division CEO engineer M N Narasimha Raju and assistant CEO B Vijayakumar, this road was repaired in 2009 January to October.

The road has now been ruined and become the reason for the locals’ anger. Though the issue of the road was brought to the notice of many officers, no change took place. Hence, people in the vicinity joined hands to protest in a different way.

The locals also demanded that the road should be completely tarred and threatened to intensify protests if the matter was not resolved.

The best way I suggest to name the pits according to their sizes, by the names of the persons according to their contribution. Example Sanmanya xxxxx ravara Honda. and that place will be reserved for the memorials.

    Sorry I did a mistake!
Paramaribo is in Suriname and not in Guyana.
I worked as a Chief Engineer on a banana carrier called MV Copenname a few years back.
We used to sail from Southampton - Belgium - Paramaribo - British Guyana - French Guyana - Coppename and back carrying a load of 6000 Tons of bananas for FYFFES banana company.
    Kindly look up in Google.
    Have a nice day!

    As usual, good comments!
Wish I can pluck some free bananas next season - if I am still around!
Imagine driving on a road full of banana trees. This is my dream come true.
This place would be just like British Guyana (Paramaribo)where I was posted many years back. This is called progress!

All these people who are unnecessarily passing various remarks here, wonder who prevented them from complaining to the previous Government. If they had done that earlier, they would have had better roads (in your next janma).
I think it is better to wait till this rainy season is over, meantime send your complaints through media like the way you have done and surely the road will be repaired by the concerned corporator\mla and definitely not the Forest Minister.
Even in Bangalore so many CMs alotted funds\gave dead lines for filling of potholes. Somehow CMs are no more, money allotted cannot be traced, but pot holes are there for everyone to see and experience.
Repairing all those during rainy season is a waste of money.
Also, in my opinion (only an opinion) the roads should be laid in such a way that the water drains from the center to the sides and not from the sides to the center!!!!! as it done now.
Of course it is done that way for a reason which most of the people know - that is how all the people involved get rich super fast.

Prayer to the Minister\MLA\Corporator concerned - kindly look into the problems of these people.

This voice of 20 persons is not enough. It should be loud. Get more people and take a big protest to DC's office.

Roads without proper plan and without any drain system for rain water will not survive for any long !!! Our monsoon rains are bit strong. One thing is true our system is bit rusted !!!.

Hope now atleast authorities will wake up. If this protest does not work, then need to take authorities as hostage like MNS did in Mumbai.
