Mangalore: Cattle theft menace - VHP, Bajrang Dal put forth four demands

Mangalore, Aug 6: The Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) have set forth four major demands before the state government following the increase in cattle thefts in recent days. These demands were revealed to the media on Tuesday August 6 at Hotel Woodlands. Victims of cattle theft were also present along with VHP and BD leaders on the occasion.

The four major demands are - cattle theft victims must be compensated with Rs 50,000 each; cattle breeders should be permitted to use rifle to safeguard their cattle; a special team or branch of police has to be formed to completely stop this cattle theft menace; ‘Gram-Goraksha Dal’, a unique team comprising of villagers needs to be set up.

Addressing the media, Prof M B Puranik, state president, VHP, Karnataka, said, “Earlier in 2007, as per records, the total cattle population was around 4,12,000 and in 2012 the number had declined to 2,58,000; a drastic downfall of nearly 1,50,000 in number. This is, in fact, a clear cut indication that the cattle are in danger.”

“The state government has completely failed to take steps for the protection of the cattle. The number of illegal slaughter houses is increasing at an alarming rate. The state government and the police have to be alert and do something to curb this menace at the earliest. Check posts and squads need to be set up to have proper control over the issue. Police always ask the Hindu outfits not to take law in their hands and do any intolerable activities and instead to either inform or intimate them if any such incident is happening. But even if we inform them, the possibility of the police to stop the incident is just one in ten,” he added.

The cattle thieves have even come up to the level of showing swords, threatening and stealing the cattle, even then the police have failed to take any steps against the culprits. The last communal fight had taken place with issues relating to cattle theft. In order to avoid such untoward incidents, the authorities must go through this issue carefully,” added Puranik.

The victims who have lost their cattle were also present on the occasion and shared their bitter experiences and the pain of losing their dear cattle.

Sharing his pain, cattle breeder Mucchuru Vidhyadhar Hegde said that his compound has a 6.5 ft high wall and a big metal gate as well as dogs. But still the cattle thieves have managed to enter the compound and steal three high-yielding cows from the shed. It is clear that they have taken the cattle out of the compound by leading them out and later they have loaded it on some vehicle. Due to the missing of these cattle, I have been incurring a loss of nearly 50 to 60 liters of milk per day,” he said.

Antony D’Souza, a resident of Jappinamogaru, said that three of his cattle have gone missing in one rainy night, despite having three dogs in the compound.

Mahadevi, resident of Surathkal Kana, said that she has being carrying out cattle breeding for nearly 18 years. A few days ago, at night, they heard some sound and the dogs barking. When they stepped out to check, she found some miscreants forcibly loading their cattle on a tempo. When her children ran out to stop them, the culprits showed them swords and threatened to kill them if they stepped forward. She said that she later informed the police through 100, who in turn came to the spot and chased the culprits but were unable to trace them and lost track of them. Mahadevi said that the whole of her livelihood had to be carried out with the help of these cattle, but since she has lost them, the government must give her some compensation.

Ram Prasad Ucchil says that on the morning of May 9, 2013, when his mother went to the shed to milk the cows, she found her cows missing. Later, they found that a foot of the cow had been cut and kept near the ‘Tulsi Katte’.  The missing cows used to yield nearly 15 to 16 litres of milk per day. They then informed the police, who in turn visited the spot and promised to do the needful. MLA and health minister also visited the spot immediately.

Sharath, a resident of Mudipu said that as per Hindu rituals, a cow has to be taken into the house during the house warming ceremony. For this purpose, he had taken a cow from the ‘Goshala’. This cow that had been tied outside the house last night and was found missing the next morning.

“The memorandum will be submitted to the respective authorities. A meeting with the leaders and members of the outfit will be carried to discuss the issue,” said Jagadish Shenava, district secretary, VHP.

Leaders Sharan Pumpwell, Jithendra Kottary, Dinesh Pai, Gopal Kuthar, Bhujanga Kulal, Pradeep Pumpwell, Puneeth Pumpwell, and Pramod Suvarna were present.

BD & VHP the Cattle number reduced from 4 lack to 2.5 lack during the year 2007-12. During this period your own govt. BJP was ruling the state govt. and you need to blame them.
We don't required one more group to protect the cattle, instead BD and VHP hardliners you need to do some other community service to protect and give shelter to poor needy people

Why a new Gram Gorakshan Dal ( Bajarang Dal) while it is Already Exist.. HOD sitting In Kalladka... These Unit will start buying cattle and will buy one rifle each for each Cow.. If they find girl or boy together they may take to place and shoot the boy together with a cow.. Rivalry on minorities can be concluded with shootout with a reason of cow theft.. so On... Government should seriously decide on legalizing the beef products. India is a major supplier of beef products to Gulf and Asian markets. If India can fulfill export demands why can’t its own peoples need? These unnecessary complications can be solved. One thing to conclude, all recent activities on cow lifts are provoked and indirectly done by Bajarang dal and VHP. previously all tempos carried cows which stolen, any means caught by BD, now their people involved in this so you will not find any tempos or any person caught while on the move.. Instead Ban Beef ban BD and VHP for betterment of Society they are the most serious threat in all times...

VHP/BJP/SANGH/BD, No doubt these goons are following the same path/game which western/Israeli media use to do. At time target a single matter by continuously focusing/publishing the news where they want to convince the masses for their effort, which most of the times are wrong/misleading. Now when BJP was in power they were only behind banning cow slaughter and there was not much news on daily basis of cattle theft. But now they turnes thier focus on cattle theft and want the masses to believe that indeed cattle's are stolen on daily basis for which we witnessed through newspaper's with protests and news of cattle theft on daily basis. What a pity. And upon that by urging to start Gram-Goraksha Dal these psychos are not satisfied with existing DAL's to trouble common people.

Now since its a new Govt., and to tarnish their image you might have stopped support to these cattle lifters and later put your demands and raise your voice. Cheap people.

I for one support the demands put forward by both VHP as well as Khadher. Cattle lifting was and is a serious issue. It may sound silly for those having access to internet and reading this article. But there are many whose lives are dependent on rearing cattle. There isn't another animal that can provide lives to people like cattle. Milk is expensive and if Siddu has his way, you will soon shell out 36 rupees per litre. Ghee is expensive too. Cow dung is the safe fertilizer that does not suck up the soil. Look at the return on investment in cows, you will be surprised. With this in background, now bring the cattle lifters to picture and it is horrible. They deserve no sympathy regardless of who eats beef and who does not. And all those nay sayers siding with the cattle lifters you are obviously living in your own world and thank God you are just opining and not part of the adminstration.

The first step should be the people who buy cattle from villagers for a agreed price should be given police security till they reach them to a licensed slaughter house. This one step will clear all the problems of the society at large.
The people who have cattle should provide the details and pictures of the cattle to the Village Accountant and nearest police station.
By demanding rifles the VHP and BD are on process of creating another terrorist outfit so that they can fulfill their various hidden agendas.

But we have to be more alert with the day robbery taking place now-a-days. We leave our women folk at home in the day time and go to our business. How many incidents have taken place in the recent past in our twin districts wherein women were robbed and murdered. Why VHP and BD not concerned about this? Now which life is more important? Can somebody answer? As our cities grow simultaneously crime rate also grows.

    Set up the priorities first:
The four major demands are: (1) The victims of communal acts, inclusive church attack victims as well as and total loss due to damage to the places of worship, Home Stay victims should be fully paid by BD, VHS, RSS, Rama sene etc. Each injured victim must be compensated with Rs 5 lakhs each (2) Communal goondas need to be booked under Goondas act immediately.
    (3) All places of worship and sensitive places should be permitted to use rifle to safeguard against communally poisoned, illiterate, uneducated idiots.
    (4) A special team or branch of police has to be formed to completely stop and eliminate from this planet these goondas who have brought disgrace to Mangalore at International Level.
A team comprising of encounter groups need to be set up.
All this to say, human beings first, cows next. Cows are important, but humans are more important. Number of Cows is reduced, but communal harmony has totally disappeared!

Why can't they appoint round the clock vigilant squad to protect cow sheds rather than chasing cattle carrying trucks and taking law in their hands?

More than the cattle breeders, Mangalorean women need permission to carry rifle with them to safe guard themselves from men filled with lust.
The drastic downfall of cattle population is because of the disappearance of agricultural lands due to up coming of various projects. The villagers are selling the lands and moving into the cities for better living. Cattle rearing is not permitted within the city limits.
The cattle lovers will not tolerate the death of a cattle. So when they feel that the cattle is grown old and out of any income generation they prefer to sell the cattle to the slaughter houses by which the cattle rarer, the slaughter as well as the consumer benefits.

These VHP\BD and some other related groups always claim that the Govt. has failed to protect Cattle.
When BJP Govt. was there, they did not make such claims but have come forward just after a couple of months after the new Government has taken over.
From this one can surmise their intentions.
To repeat their say, during '07 till '12 although the cattle numbers fell by 1.5 lacs they did not worry much and did not claim the then govt.

In the wake of some organisations trying to claim from Govt. for loss of their animals,
it is advisable to registers all animals in the State and charge a substantial fee for that on yearly basis so as to meet the claims put forward by these organisations and individuals.

Mr. Hentry Misquit, if our Police /Government cannot stop illegal cow lifting and other small isuues , do you believe they can stop huge issues like terrorists attacks and issues from Chinese. And you feel what these people , who do illegal cow lifting is right grow up brother because you are in Gulf Country and you have good money, but many still in native depend on cows for their lively hood. And all religious holy books say that do not do any illegal work. And i know how huge this mafia is back in native........ because since 6 years we are fighting a case of such kind in court.......

This menace is so serious that even every family in our Coastal Area started giving night security to their cattle. The general mood in our area is that, they regret their decision to vote for this Government. They started blaming this new Government by saying that these goons were totally scared during BJP Government but now since they have supporters they are free to do whatever they want.

hahaha... please read the statistics properly, it was under BJP rule...

Addressing the media, Prof M B Puranik, state president, VHP, Karnataka, said, “Earlier in 2007, as per records, the total cattle population was around 4,12,000 and in 2012 the number had declined to 2,58,000 a drastic downfall of nearly 1,50,000 in number. This is, in fact, a clear cut indication that the cattle are in danger.”

Human beings are kidnapped and murdered and the Police Commissioner says he is short staffed and these people want "a special team or branch of police has to be formed to completely stop this cattle theft menace" - after the downfall of their mentors (the BJP) these people are trying a back door entry. The story of cattle breeder Mucchuru Vidhyadhar Hegde - is a poor joke "said that his compound has a 6.5 ft high wall and a big metal gate as well as dogs. But still the cattle thieves have managed to enter the compound and steal three high-yielding cows from the shed" - why do these thefts take place onllly in Mangalore / DK ?? In Bangalore cows are left loose on the busy roads to fend for themselves - I wish they were stolen as they are a traffic hazard and have resulted in many two wheeler riders losing their limbs / life - if it is a choice between Human beings and cattle ... the majority would surely have the law enforcers protect us human beings.

Welldone VHP and BD. The four demands which I feel are too much and out of that second one to take permission to use rifles. Now police also got some support to go ahead.

I suspect seriously that the recent cow robbery was carried out by the VHP, BJDL & DRAMA SENE's chelaas to score political marks.

    NEVER WILL THEY SUCCEED.
    1) GIVING RIFLES TO PROTECT COWS IS UNACCEPTABLE. When churches were attacked Christians never asked rifles.
    2) If there is effective squad to protect the interests of the people, then it is not necessary to compensate.
3)Gram-Goraksha Dal’ is un-necessary if the effective police protection to all the sections of the society including house robberies.

As Honorable Minister U.T. Khadar has proposed effective special police force for protection of the cows, the demands of VHP & BJDL are just a trash.

    Sharath
it is a very good story to remember by and pass it on to our children and grand\grand children

They will really cherish this story as there is lot of mirth in it...!!!

Now you have to compensate the goshala for not returning the cow and you are planning to take money from the govt.
    Yenu ondu chamatkarada bashane.
How about other member of those organisations. Most probably each one of them may have lost a cow\buffallow\calf or something like that - dogs..

Make an inventory and forward it to BJP. They have enough funds of the govt. They will pay you immediately.

If every victim of robbery claims compensation from the Govt.....
I'll leave it to your imagination.
