Karkala: Policeman suspended for supporting cattle lifters

Karkala, Aug 7: Close on the heels of state health minister U T Khadar issuing stern warning to the DK superintendent of police for alleged inaction and inability in controlling illegal cow slaughter and increased incidents of cattle theft, the Udupi SP Boralingaiah has suspended Ajekar PSI Sudhakar for supporting cattle lifters.

It is not a secret that cattle lifters have often been supported by police personnel in undivided Dakshina Kannada district. Often the information of proposed raids on illegal slaughterhouses, nakabandi to apprehend cattle trafficking etc is passed on the offenders by insiders and hence police return empty handed. This has now been proved with the suspension of Sudhakar who has been accused of being hand in glove with the cattle lifters.

Suspension order was issued after the district SP received absolute proofs regarding Sudhakar’s involvement in cattle lifting cases in and around Karkala. His phone records also revealed that he was regularly in touch with these offenders and passed on inside information to them and helped them give slip to the police everytime. Sudhakar was not only supporting the offenders but was also getting his share of profits from these illegal activities.

This is not an isolated or first-of-its-kind case in Karkala. Earlier a DRA staff who was the driver for police jeep had been caught red-handed while passing on information to the cattle lifters. After his apprehension, it was noted that he had numerous SIM cards and mobile phones which were used to keep in touch with the cattle lifters and give them information. A few corrupt police personnel such as Sudhakar and others have maligned the dignity of police department and proved that public is not wrong in blaming the police for their involvement in various illegal activities and being at the beck and call of the criminals.

SP confirms issuing suspension order

Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah has confirmed that he has suspended Ajekar PSI Sudhakar for his alleged involvement with the cattle lifters. He has further said that an internal enquiry was conducted and Sudhakar’s ‘double role’ was proved and hence he was suspended.
