Mangalore: Pickpocket caught red-handed, trashed by public at Ullal

Daijiworld Media Network – Ullal

Mangalore, Aug 8 : A man who was caught pick pocketing at Thokkottu on Thursday was beaten severely by a bus time keeper and later by the public before handing him over to the police.

The pickpocket has been identified as 35-year-old Sudhakar.

Sudhakar was caught by the bus timekeeper while he was escaping with Rs 3,500 pick pocketed by him from a passenger alighting at Thokkottu. He was first taken to task by the  timekeeper and the public and thereafter handed over to Ullal police.

Some people, who perhaps got a 'free' opportunity to trash, used abusive language on the pickpocketer and beat him black and clue.

A similar incident of pick pocketing had occurred a few months ago at Thokkottu when another person was caught in the act and was assaulted by the public before handing him over to the police.

Next time if you are around when a pick-pocket is caught have a good swipe at him and let him fall dead from your blow. Of course, you did not want to kill him but..)
Then .... you may say Why I went to hit him.... but too late. You will be put in a bigger lock up and for homicide.
    Hope you get the meaning.
You can help the police in apprehending, giving information of culprits.
By punishing the culprit yourself you are on your way to anarchy and more trouble.

Bribe is common everywhere. This is also a pick-pocket. The person who receives bribe does it without physically ing his hand into the bribe payers pocket. It is like Magic. Nobody thrashes the bribe receiver. Everyone wants their job done quickly without hassle (Short Cut). Legal procedures are too long and have to meet several people for the job done, it is like a vicious circle from one officer to another. It is waste of time and energy. And without paying the bribe the papers may be kept pending or never be done.

People can only complaint and the Police should file the case. The court should decide guilty or not guilty. Caught red handed is guilty.

Whats the guarantee people who are thrashing him are clean and have not indulged in illegal activities previously?.They have no right to thrash him at all. Best thing is you give it to police who will decide his fate in a so called our legal system.

Beating is quite fine but publishing his picture in this way is... i feel.... it's not quite good thing. Surely he should punished for his deed but in future he may realize his mistake ans will try live in right path. But now he cant be able to come in front of this society. If he wish to get a job for breading his family who will offer him? Truth is we are living under the ruling of national and international level robbers whom smiling pictures are always in front pages. and these robbers are the reason for our unemployment level and indirectly reason for this kind of acts from few peoples.

Unfortunate incident. Both parties are wrong here. The thief as well as the public. No one has the right to beat another human physically.

I remember the Dubai incident where a local Arab physically assaulted an Indian and lot of people commented saying it's wrong.

Now today the same people are supporting this 'Thokkottu' incident where the public is assaulting a thief.

Who gave the public the right to assault physically?

It's these kind of incidents that gives the public to dare & take law & order in their hands which would ultimately lead to lawlessness.

Is this what is called 'Democracy'?

What a thing to say to say to John, Mangalore.
What he said is absolutely correct.
Public are not the one to mete out punishment. Then what they did was correct - handing over that man to the Police. It is Policemen job to punish him according to law.

When homestay attack took place everyone complained about the thrashing from those guys. Now it should not be any different.
Let us have one kind of say on that and not go on contradicting our views every now and then.

I appreciate bus timekeeper and other locals of Mangalore for beating him up.

3 years back I was traveling in Bus No: 201 in Bangalore. During travel in BMTC bus I am always vigilant on mobile and pocket. On that fateful day I was about to get down and came near the door. Suddenly i got a call. I answered the call and kept my mobile inside pocket. Just a minute later, I put my hand inside pocket to realize that my mobile has been stolen. Suddenly I started shouting in bus. A gentleman standing behind me pointed towards some 4 people who just got down from us and he told they have stolen your mobile. Immediately i got down and chased those persons and luckily I got the mobile..!! But I was surprised to know that Gentleman was watching while my mobile was being stolen...! Still I am thankful to that gentleman since he told me about thieves.

If you are in Bangalore, please be careful about No. 201 bus. It is a haunted bus.

What can money losers do when the thief is caught red handed ? garland him and give him bakshish for his bravery? Only the people who lost money and their valuables know the pain and anguish.I have an incident to share with you guys. Some time back at Delhi a persons bag was stolen at Airport containing his passports, VISA and credit card and money. He was prevented from entering the airport , who not only missed the flight but his VISA expired too soon there after. One can you imagine the pain and duress one has to undergo due to these kind of thefts.

Pick pockets thrive in crowded temples like Subramanya, especially during general holidays. They are well-dressed and behave decently like any other devotee and without our knowledge steal our belongings. They operate in a gang and create commotion and crowd at some place and ute their job. So while going to temples do not carry more than 100 Rs. I lost a huge sum of money in this temple.

Rs 3500.00 will be shared 50:50 and he will be back to his job tomorrow morning again. He should have been thrashed in such a way so that he will never do pickpocketing.

It is not good at all to take law in ones' hand.
He was caught and then should have been handed over to the police. It is their duty to give him needed punishment
And we should not applaud the unruly people around him or join them in what they did.
Now he is with the police and he will be taken care of by them as per law.
