Mangalore, Aug 9: "A Congress manifesto implementation committee has been set up, chaired by union defence minister A K Antony as the president and all the leaders including the chief minister as it members. The commitee has been formed with an intention to fulfill the promises made by Congress during the Assembly elections," said former union minister Janardhan Poojary.

Addressing the media at district Congress office here on Friday August 9, Poojary said, "Due to arecanut diseases, many growers are facing lot of problems. Hence, through this manifesto implementation committee, we will ask the government to clear off their debt."

"In addition, we will also see to it that the rule requiring minimum 10 cents of land to build a house is scraped. All the promises we made will be fulfilled in a span of 5 years as we cannot do it one year alone," he clarified.

Commenting on the proposed Niddodi project, Poojary said it is the child of BJP and that the Congress is going ahead with it with a good intention. "Our government has agreed as we have given importance to solving electricity problem," he said.

However, he added, "Though the government's intention is good, the effect on environment and people is high. Hence we strongly oppose the project as it is our duty to respond to people’s problems. I will also ask the chief minister to drop this plan," he added.

About reports of a pact between the JD(S) and the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-polls in Mandya and Bangalore Rural, Poojary questioned the intentions of JD(S) and said, "JD(S) has never spoken truth. By joining hands with the BJP, they have proved that only power is important to them," he said.

During the press meet, while interacting with the media, a representative from the media questioned Poojary on the Niddodi issue. Poojary evaded the question which prompted the person to walk out from the press meet.

Party leaders Deepak Poojary, Radhakrishna, Naveen D’Souza, Shashidar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, and T K Sudheer among others were present.

Mr. JP is a very good, honest & straight forward leader as already stated by Mr. Satish Kunder. However, I sure do hope Mr. JP will not try contesting again in 2014. High time he gives other young-stars a chance.

If Niddodi project was the child of BJP and present congress govt continuing the same, then announcement of Moodbidri Taluk was also the child of previous BJP govt. Why Siddu cancelled the plan of new Moodbidri Taluk?. All congi ministers and representatives including Abaya,Moily poojari are cheating the Niddodians. Now where is Mr Oscar?. During elections he is present with his wife in all stage programs from HALLI to DELHI. Now they forgotten Niddodi?

Today Janardhana Poojary is the only leader from Dakshina Kannada whose long political career is without any black spot. He is the only mass leader in Dakshina Kannada irrespective of any party. Even though he is not the M.P. anymore he has left such a mark as nobody speaks about any MPs after him including the present M.P. who is good for nothing.

Poojary talks straight and he may not entertain people who like to hear long speeches with lot of hyperboles. There is a group which makes fun of him whenever he makes statements but forget that our own Poojary always takes the side of poor and weak.

As regards Niddodi his statement is correct as power is needed by all but proper balance is required between environment and development. We mangaloreans don’t want power project in our area but how many of us can live without electricity? We have every right to fight for our environment but there has to be proper balance between environment and development.

If our concern for environment is so much then we should fight to close the airport in our area, stop using vehicles in our area as these contributes maximum to the pollution.

Let us stop using electricity from today because we have to save environment.

Why Udupi UPCL'S major part of power distributed other places whereas only 10 to 15 percent only given to locally?
Why can't other cities too build similar power plant instead of depending on Udupi plant?
That is not imbalance of environment?
Power project is required but not at the cost of farmers livelihood

Why UPCL not generating power as per its estimated capacity of 1200 MW. Why Raichoor Thermal power plant not maintained properly. It also not generating power due to the lack of coal. Niddodi plant is planned only to fill the suitcase of ministers and govt officials .This project is not for people of Karanataka or D.K. People who favoring this project were either directly or indirectly involved in politics or land mafia.

The press meet is nothing but all Joke. Poojary himself proved that he is inconsistent about the Nidodi Project so is his Party & the govt. There is no coordination at all between CM , his cabinet & his party on top of that this joker is talking about implementation committee. Implementation of what Govt projects or CMs projects or Congress's projects or Janardhan Poojary's projects.

Its fortunate that unlike other congress leader's Poojary dint till that you can get 1 plate of "GOLIBAJE" for 2 Rs in Mangalore that too with extra chutney.

Dear All, ....... Be ready... patiently read this article.... See the "double stand " taken by our Poojary ..., and a press person walked out the press meeting!!!! Because poojary not able or justify himself....

I will also ask the chief minister to this plan," he added.
