Mangalore, Aug 11: “Community people travel to foreign countries far away from motherland to earn their livelihood and feed their families. In Billawa community, there are several parents who have sacrificed and toiled hard to educate their children. Students can be role models to society when they are educated by inculcating discipline. The discipline what they acquire should also be practised in day-to-day life. Narayana Guru has given wonderful message to the society; the community should also follow his message,” said former union minister Janardhan Poojary, who is also the managing trustee of Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Kudroli.

He spoke after inaugurating the scholarship distribution programme for students organized by Billawas Dubai and Northern Emirates (BDNE), Dubai, held under the aegis of Gokarnatheshwara Kshetra, Kudroli, Shri Guru Charitable Trust at Koragappa Memorial Hall here on Sunday August 11.

Commenting on community youth who have been involved in offences, Poojary said, “The family members should boycott youths who are involved in committing offences. Power is not important to anyone but the attitude of individual is very essential”.

He also said that the Congress has brought about immense development in the region with projects like development of Bunder port, international status to Mangalore airport, highway construction and development of railway.

Koti and Chennayya who were born in Billawa community were courageous and truthful; we community people should also imbibe that courage to serve the society."

He added, "Billawa community is a majority community in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, and they have even contributed a lot to changing the government.
