Doha: AI Express - Pay QR 50 for additional 10 kg baggage

Media Release

Doha, Aug 12: Air India Express, presently, provides passengers with free baggage allowance (FBA) of 20 kg for flights operating out of India and 30 kg for flights operating into India. Due to higher FBA on flights operating into India, the saleable seat capacity is reduced in line with payload constraints.

In keeping with recent industry trends especially in the LCC market, it has been decided to reduce the free baggage allowance on flights operating into India, from 30 to 20 kg per passenger, which is the present FBA on flights operating out of India.

This will be applicable to tickets booked on or after August 22, 2013.

In the recent past, many airlines including Air India have reduced the FBA. Some of the LCC competitors, like Air Arabia and Air Asia, do not provide any FBA, and charge for all checked in baggage.

All passengers of Air India Express who get their tickets issued on or after August 22 from any part of Gulf to India will have the option to carry an additional 10 kg of check in baggage, that is, 20 kg plus additional 10 kg by paying a nominal amount of QAR 50.

Passengers and travel agents will be provided the facility to book the additional allowance through the system while booking the ticket or subsequently.

Passengers ticketed prior to August 22, 2013 will continue to be entitled to 30 kg FBA, as reflected on their itinerary receipt, irrespective of the date of travel.

Its seems like day by day AIE going down with they are standard. 1st service is not up to the international standard 2nd flight is not on time (no consistency) 3rd weekly only two flights from Doha to Mangalore that is also not consistency in schedule. Flight will cancel any with out any advance information to the traveller! 4th The food witch provided in the AIE flight not at all good. now FBA reduce 10 kg. Air India Express Management team should really look in to this matter and improve their standard and give excellent service to the all customer (Traveller) as I can see we don't have any other option because we don't have any other direct flights from doha or dubai to mangalore. people who travelling with family is very good to have direct flight like AIE. However I am very disappointed with AIE baggage issue!

It is very shame to AIE even country like Bangladesh (BIMAN)is allowing 50 kg baggage without hand carry, PIA also allowing 50 kg per passenger without hand carry. So like a advance country in a world has no any proper place in aviation, always strike, delay 12-14 hrs, so this credit goes to AIE (only 20 kg)So learn from backward countries how to operate flights and satisfy its passengers.

We are unnecesarly wasting our time commenting on this issue. Very simple stop travelling by AIE. If it happens, the carrier will automatically start providing 50kg FBA.

And for the loss of passengers they will also offer companion free. I don't know when will the close this airline and stop abusing tax payers money. They have never dreamt of making it big by winning customers and being competitive.. Otherwise for a country of our size and a sizeable chunk in the aviation market we should have been for long been a leading airline. We are busy creating jobs for next elections.. Governments should not be allowed to run commercial ventures or dictate terms to promote healthy competition

We should be thankful for the facility we have at present to Doha to Mangalore. With regard to luggage, the company changes the quantum of free freight and cost for extra baggage as per their working cost and collection from passengers ticket.Hope, the passengers adjust for it.Thanq.

Air Arabia tickets are the cheapest. Unfortunately it does not fly to Mangalore. For Mumbai and Bangalore passengers it is the cost effective airlines. Timings are also convenient.

I feel that every line should make a rule to pay excess baggage over regular allowance of 15 kilo per ticket. Air Asia,a major budjet airlines has this very good system where passenger can pay extra baggage charges on the slabs of 25,40 or above while booking a ticket .The baggage rates are very low than compared to the airlines that charge at airport while issuing a boarding pass. This will benefit every passenger who can decide on the volume of luggage before proceeding to the airport.

Very true.. Most of the airlines here do the same too.. if u are carrying nothing then u pay the cheapest and if u want a check in bag just purchase the amount of kilos accordingly.. I wanted to book my jet airways flights and contacted them to know the procedures incase i wanted to purchase extra baggage.. and to be honest the reply i got is there is nothing u got to pay at the airport...

Don't blame just Air India Express, even jet Airways reduced baggage to 30 kg. All airlines making money in peak season by hiking price and reducing baggage. This is good move by Air India Express.

    Correction:
Flying in AI express is costly nowa days, If AI express starts charging for the additional baggage, people will start shifting to Jet and the Gulf Airlines, who are already benefiting from the gross mismanagement at AI express.

AI is playing with human sentiments, now they have come with a consolation offer because people have started booking their tickets with other indirect airline, no problem if we reach 4 to 5 hours late, we can save Rs10,000/- plus we can carry without any problem 40 kgs, bye bye Air India Express
