Lucknow: Former top cop Bidari joins Mulayam's SP, may lead party in state

Lucknow, Aug 13 (DHNS): Former Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police Shankar M Bidari on Monday joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) and is likely to be made the chief of the party’s Karnataka unit.

According to SP sources here, Bidari met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is also the chief of the party in UP, at his residence here and joined the party.

The former top cop was accompanied by the lone SP MLA from Karnataka C P Yogeeshwara of Channapatna and former minister Goolihatti D Shekhar, who joined the party recently.

Bidari, who had joined the Congress on the eve of the Karnataka Assembly polls, was reportedly unhappy with the party leadership for certain reasons. He had been denied the Congress ticket from the Terdal Assembly seat in his home district of Bagalkot. Bidari was also an aspirant for the Congress ticket from the Bagalkot Lok Sabha constituency for the 2014 elections and, it is said that he is unlikely to get it.


To meet Mulayam

Sources said that Bidari might also call on the SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in Delhi on Tuesday and discuss the strategy to strengthen the SP in the southern state.

SP office bearers remained tight-lipped over the meeting but admitted that the party was trying to expand its base in Karnataka. “We are obviously buoyed by the victory of one of our nominees in the recent Assembly polls there,” said a party leader. He said that it would be a bonus if the SP managed to win a seat or two from Karnataka in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

    Mr Bidri has spoilt his image by joining a political party like SP that has large number of leaders with criminal cases against them. I hope the wise people of Karnataka will not give entry to likes of SP, BSP, etc.

    Bidari lost his credibility as super cop.He gained fame after Veerappan's encounter now something fishy here, now he lost confidence with political party whereas he is the team leader one who eliminated Veerappan and it was permanently earthed to disclosing involvement of some political strong hold. May be he is repenting now....who knows.

    All the people are respecting him
    when he was in Police because of his strictness & no doubt he was a able administrator.Ultimately he joined a terrorists party.Any how
    people of our state will not entertain such parties.

    Once upon a time,Mr.Bidari was close to Yeddy..then he was fed up and joined Congress..But Congress didn't make use of this spirited officer and didn't give ticket..again Bidari got fed up and joined SP..Let us see when he will fed up again ?..Hope he will not join MAAYAVATI next time..

    I had really had high regards for Mr. Bidari before he made this decision to join SP.
    1. He took a U-turn on what he stated when he joined Congress.
    2. He chose to join party like SP which has huge number of MLAs and MPS with criminal allegation and ill treatment of IAS/IPS officials.

    Yeah, in every party there are leaders with criminal allegations. He could have stuck to National parties like Congress,BJP or Aam Admi or even contested independently without compromising the values.

    He might have been misguided. He might have taken this decision to send a message to Congress. Overall,I can say is, he made blunder.I feel he can't stay there for long in that party which he will soon realise.

    May be he failed to pay 100 crores Rs to Sonia and that is why he was missed MLA/MP ticket.

    UP is under Goonda raj under SP rule..... What Bidari (D. G. and I. G. of Police want Karnataka to become? There should be one law that after retirement from government post no one can join Politics. May be Bidari is thinking that Politics is part time business.

    What can be observed from the moves of S.M. Bidari is that, he is less inclined to serve the people as a lay leader, but is very desperate for POWER.
    To attain power, he is continuously switching loyalties to parties.

    Bidri saab,you are joining a most worst political party of India in the present times and endangering your prospects in the field.SP is other name for goonda raj.A party which has highest %age of criminals leading the party.It is a party whose gooda MLA Raja Bhaiaya was instrumental in killing a very honesst high ranking police offcer Dysp Zia Ul Haq recently.CBI has given a "Clean chit" to this Raja Bhaiya.By becoming party boss of the party in Karnataka you are only trying to devide the votaes but people will not support you(from any sections of soceity)I was surprised to know how a senior ex burocrat of high repute made up the mind to join this SP gooda party.
    You join any party its your prerogative....be it BJP,JDS,Congress or even Muslim League.But not SP.....
