Massive Sharjah warehouse fire causes major losses

Sharjah, Aug 13 (Emirates 24|7): A warehouse in Sharjah's industrial area 5 blew up in smoke on Monday, causing substantial financial loses.

According to a report in Emarat Al Youm, no injuries have been reported in the blaze that gutted the warehouse that stored spare parts and scrap cars.

Colonel Nasser Juma bin Hindi, Deputy Director, Sharjah Civil Defence, said rescue team rushed to the site at about 10.50 in the morning, no sooner than they received the information.

The blaze was spreading rapidly as car tyres are highly inflammable. So the help of civil defence units from Dubai, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain was also sought. Sharjah Municipality provided the water required for the purpose.

It took almost an hour for the combined force to douze the fire, the official added.

Forensic experts are investigating the exact cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, officials urge warehouse owners to respect safety rules to avoid such incidents.
