Mangalore, Aug 16: In a case of alleged drunken driving, three persons were injured when a speeding Maruti Ritz car rammed into their auto rickshaw at Gorigudde here on Thursday August 15 at around midnight.

It is said that three persons of north-east India, who run a Chinese mobile canteen in the city, were on their way back home, when a speeding while Ritz car (KA 20 P 5278 ), in a bid to overtake, dashed into their rickshaw from the rear end.

The impact was such that the rickshaw (KA 19 A 374) rolled over, broken into pieces, and all the three occupants sustained injuries. One of the injured is said to be critical.

The food and utensils they were carrying too fell out of the auto and strewn beside the road.

The identity of the injured is not yet known. Two of them were taken to Father Muller hospital while another person was admitted to Indiana hospital.

Meanwhile, people in the vicinity heard a crashing sound when the accident took place and rushed to the spot. Around 30 people gathered and on questioning the driver of the car, he was said to be allegedly drunk. Angered by this, the locals began to thrash him.

The driver of the car, whose identity is not yet known, was injured on the head. An ambulance arrived at the spot and took him away to hospital.

However, interestingly, while he was being taken to the hospital in the ambulance, the Ritz driver opened the ambulance door and jumped off and managed to escape!

The car was also badly damaged in the incident, with its bonnet and windshield broken.

Pandeshwar police arrived at the spot.

Appreciate the local's immediately rushed, to help the accident victim's
when they heard the sound of accident.

Also I am with the locals who have thrashed the drunk driver of RITZ car. If the locals act in the similar way, then most the accident taking place in coastal Karnataka may reduce due to the fear of locals.

Glad to see Daya back in action. Nice to see the pictures. Sad to know that the occupants of the rickshaw were badly injured in the accident caused by the drunk driver of the Ritz car. How come he escaped although he was drunk and beaten by the locals. I wish a speedy recovery for those injured and hope the police arrest the driver of the Ritz car.

From the below comments it is very much obvious that drunken driving is permissible to injure and take the life of some innocent persons who are working hard for their living not stealing,or in any gangster activities. It is so painful to see such "Smart" comments from "Intelligent " people of D.K

Do you know mobile canteens cook in front of you.
You can see how they cook and what they cook and more important you know what you eat.
You are requesting local owners of hotels/restaurants to not to allow outsiders?
How many Magalorean running similar outlets outside M'lore i.e Bombay Delhi etc.
Moreover local restaurants / Hotel but not all how many of them using same chutney, sambhar and good meat pieces leftover by customers again for same hundy back? If you need I have the picture proof.
So do not judge a book by its cover but read in between lines and judge by its contents.

To stop this type of vehicle accident the RTO need to be very strict and cancel the driving licence of all those who drunk and drive the vehicle and also of those drivers if accident occur because of their neglegance.Sorry for the incident.
