25 injured in Odisha plant clash

Bhubaneswar, Aug 16 (IANS): At least 25 people were Friday injured, some seriously, in a clash between workers and security staff at a power plant site in Odisha's Angul district, police said.

Accusing their employer of not paying salaries for months, about 300 workers allegedly attacked the security staff of the Monnet power company plant in Malibrahmani village, about 170 km from Bhubaneswar.

The workers damaged furniture after entering the company office, police said. They set fire to a bus, two multi-utility vehicles and two motorcycles, police officer Bhabani Sankar Udgata told IANS.

Eight workers were arrested, Udgata added.

Company official U.P. Padhi said the workers were engaged by a contractor and the workers had a payment dispute with him.
