Mangalore, Aug 17:
'Konkani Language Recognition Day' was celebrated with great gusto on Thursday August 15 at Kirem parish under the leadership of the cultural committee.

The programme was  presided over by Fr Paul Pinto, parish priest, Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem.

Joseph Mathias, Merit Freight Systems Company LLC, Dubai was the chief guest. Robert Rodrigues, the vice-president welcomed the gathering.

Joseph Mathias and Fr Jerome D’Souza honoured the students of the parish who had excelled in academics. The felicitation programme was conducted by Marceline Saldanha, secretary of the parish council. Berton Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs Anitha Pais Compired the Programme.
 
The fourteen wards of the parish exhibited their talents in various cultural events such as singing songs, performing dances, and displaying theatrical skills with skit and tableuax. It was a colourful evening. All the fourteen wards together as fraternity of one belief prepared a tasty local delicacy (haldi kolancho patholio) covered with the turmeric leaves which was served to everyone gathered.

More than a thousand admirers of Konkani participated and enjoyed the ‘Konkani Language Recognition Day’ Programme.
