Dubai, Aug 19: It's celebration time for Mangalore Konkans Dubai – one of the most disciplined, charismatic and popular Mangalorean organizations based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as it embarks upon celebrating its 25 glorious eventful years of existence.

Mangalore Konkans Dubai - the name synonymous with community service, charity and promotion of talent is celebrating its silver jubilee on Friday, October 25 at the Dubai Crowne Plaza in style befitting a renowned organization of its caliber.

The year-long preparation being part of this unique celebrations witnessed and participated in by scores of people throughout the year, will have its climax with a grand finale “Celebrations 25” to be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel – Dubai. The enthusiastic team of Mangalore Konkans Dubai, with jubilee celebrations coordinator Tracy Rodrigues are meticulously planning the proceedings. The celebrations will conclude with a glamorous entertaining event.

As part of the celebrations, various competitions were held during the past months including sports meet 2013 on February 8, a seminar on Life Skills for Parents and Teenagers on April 5, culinary and creativity skills contest on May 24 and the successful Talent Contest on June 28.  Apart from these, visits to hospitals, prisons, labour camps and various other humanitarian activities are being planned in the coming months.

“Celebrations 25” will be a fun-filled evening with a unique programme with renowned artistes from abroad who are expected to entertain and enthrall the audience, the proceeds from which would enhance and aid their current projects.  Mangalore Konkans Dubai expects large number of dignitaries and community leaders to witness this grand event.

“Mangalore Konkans- Dubai” under the leadership of their dynamic president James Mendonca with like-minded group of committed members aim to improve the quality of life of underprivileged by means of medical support, higher education, financial support for the elderly etc.


About Mangalore Konkans Dubai

The organization affiliated to the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) under the  auspices of the Indian Consulate Dubai, had its humble beginning on October 28, 1988 with the initiative of Hilda Pereira and the late Jerome Pereira and jointly supported by like-minded and enthusiastic Konkani speaking Mangaloreans in Dubai, started with a sole objective of serving the community through humanitarian service, cultural activities and charitable works.  This initiative has now grown into a vibrant organization, with great achievements of unity and service, making itself the No 1 leading organization with a difference in the whole of the UAE and has turned itself into a beacon to rest of the organizations based in the UAE.

Mangalore Konkans' primary objectives are - extending moral and financial  support to the deserving needy, to promote Konkani language and culture through cultural events, conduct educative seminars, workshops, sports, singing, painting, elocution and dance contests and to promote talents, among the Konkani speaking Mangalorean community residing in the UAE.

The contributions of Mangalore Konkans towards the society so far have been enormous.  They have contributed huge financial aid towards educating needy and deserving students through a trust fund established in Mangalore.  They have also contributed towards the medical treatment expenses of cases such as kidney transplant, heart surgery, cancer and other major life threatening sicknesses through a medical trust fund in Mangalore. Apart from these, they have been generous towards palliative care centre, treatment of cleft patients, rehabilitation of Aids and alcoholics victims, institutions supporting higher and technical education, promoting music, art and culture, old age homes and orphanages, providing air tickets  and financial aids to distressed returning expats and many others.  They have also been instrumental in providing moral and economic support in addition to providing voluntary services to the community members and the governmental agencies during the time of distress which is highly commendable.

The listing of their achievements is long and unending.  The dedication and selfless silent contribution of its members is noteworthy.  The Mangalore Konkans members work tirelessly in unity with a sole objective of service to the society without barriers of caste and creed.
