Dubai: Wilson Kayyar chosen for Emirates Konkans Achievers Award

Dubai, Aug 19: Well-known artist Wilson Kayyar has been chosen for the first Emirates Konkans Kasargod Deanery Achievers Award-2013.

The Emirates Konkans Kasargod, UAE (EKKU) the association of Kasargod deanery in the UAE plans to honour achievers from the Kasargod deanery once in 2 years.

He has been selected for this award considering his remarkable achievement in the field of oil and water paints, which has also given much recognition to his deanery.

The announcement was made during the recent EKKU meeting held at Dubai Highland Gardens Hotel. The award will consist of a cash prize of Rs 20,000, a memento, certificate and a public felicitation.

EKKU president in a press release stated that the awardee will be felicitated during the annual event of the association to be held in the month of December in Kasargod later this year.
 

About Wilson Kayyar

Wilson Jesupriya D'Souza (31), also known as Wilson Kayyar in the field of art hails from Kayyar parish of Kasargod deanery. He was born on August 28, 1983 to the late Peter D'Souza and Juliana D'Souza .

It was during his high school days that his hidden talent in art was recognized and his teachers also encouraged him. After his SSLC he joined Mahalasa College of Visual Art, Mangalore and completed his graduation in his field of choice. Artist Wilson Kayyar was thus born into the world of colours.

Wilson's first solo exhibition ‘Rendezvous with Feminine” which was held from July 8 to July 15, 2012 at Orchid Art Gallery, Mangalore made him notable at the national level.

The great poet, cinema director and lyricist Gulzar had inaugurated the exhibition.

In 2010-2011 Wilson's exhibitions were held in Dharmasthala and Chitradurga in Karnataka with other eminent artists. He has also participated in four national-level exhibitions held in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, which made him and his artwork notable among other national-level artists too.

The exhibitions held in Mangalore, Bangalore, Ujjain, Mumbai and Hyderabad brought special attention to his art. He has participated as  guest artist and trainer in various art camps organized by different organizations and associations in Chitradurga, Shravanabelagola and in Mangalore.

Wilson is also a member of the Konkani School Book committee of Karnataka and he has also rendered a few of his pictures for Konkani school books.
