Karnataka MPs spend only one-third of funds

Bangalore, Aug 20 (TNN): Karnataka has spent just 33% of the total amount under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development ( MPLAD) scheme over the past four years (2009-2013). And interestingly, older politicians seem to be making the most of the scheme.

At least eight of the 28 MPs below 55 years have spent less than 60% of funds allotted. In contrast, senior members, including HD Deve Gowda (Hassan), Mallikarjuna M Kharge (Gulbarga) and D B Chandre Gowda, all crossed the 80% mark. Deve Gowda tops the list from Karnataka and he's among one of the top five MPs in the country to make best use of these funds.

He has spent 93.83% of the total Rs 12.11 crore funds allotted to him

These figures were released by the Union ministry of statistics and programme Implementation and are updated until January 2013.

The youngest MP from in Karnataka - Bellary's J Shantha, 40, spent only 23.78% of funds available and holds the record of lowest spending across the country. Shanta explained: "I couldn't concentrate because of unsavoury political developments in Karnataka. I'll try to make up in the remaining period."

Among the young turks, former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's son and Shimoga MP BY Raghavendra, 43, managed to spend about 91.02% of funds allotted and is ranked second after Deve Gowda. Many of the young MPs who showed a dismal performance are from the BJP, which won 19 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in the 2009 elections.

Among Union ministers from Karnataka, K H Muniyappa and M Veerappa Moily were big disappointments with their less than 55% spending. This is also true in case of other two seniors -- N Dharam Singh (Bidar) and A H Vishwanath (Mysore).

As far as Bangalore is concerned, PC Mohan, representing Bangalore Central, spent about 43%.

With inefficient, incapable, lethargic and uneducated politicians like these... India will soon land up behind Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia. Honestly, i don't see India Shining. Its our destiny to be poor and underdeveloped.

Forget Modi even the almighty wouldn't want to help India with worthless politicians like these.

Those who spent below 60% might have taken another 25% as mamool from the contractors, another 25% for contractor's margin. So the actual usage only 10%. Now Supreme Court only has to find some solution and repair this menace.

And all the while in the last 4 years BJP state govt went on telling that UPA govt at the Centre was not allotting money for welfare schemes in the State. Look how they have spent whatever was given to them. Looks like Nalin Kumar Kateel had vouched that he would utilize funds only after he asks 'first question' in the parliament. So his name might appear in the list next year since he has finally achieved his aim of one question 'ಕೋಟಿ ಕೋಟಿ ಬೆಲೆಬಾಳುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ... But JP Hegde must be commended. He seems to have used more funds in the last one year as MP than others have in the four years.

Good, they spent tax payers money in low to highest percentage level. But any report on what purpose they spent? There is no answer for this question. We are only happy in seeing the percentage but not the percentage of work done in this monies. Probably 1 to 2 percept out this might have reached the root level. Rest of the percentage is uprooted in the so called LINK SYSTEM......

Just bypass the MPs and give it to civil servants. Politicians should not touch that money. If MPs are caught for mischief, they even say "I relinquish the funds so don't punish me"! They think it is their pocket money.

though politicians from north karnataka are known for curruption, they do spend the money on developements. see the roads and town planning in Hassan and Shimoga. places like arakalgud and holenarsipur have very good roads, well maintatined lampposts and good public conference halls. They might have eaten up a small portion of funds, but we can not forget the fact that other portion is utilized well. what is happening in DK?

This fact clearly shows that all these Karnataka MPs do not have any concern for the Voters who elected them, and they even do not know their own responsibility as peoples' Representatives. Same people boast during the election that they are in the field of JANASEVE only because of their love for the People. All hypocrites.
