Mangalore, Aug 21: "There still exists a problem of drinking water distribution in the city. To overcome this, under ADP with the help from urban development minister, a second stage of work will be undertaken through which funds will be utilized for proper distribution of water and others. The project will be completed in next two and a half years and the people of the city will be able to get 24*7 water supply," said MLA J R Lobo.

Addressing the media  about the progress work undertaken by the Congress government for the city at his office in Kadri, MLA Lobo said "under this project, we are planning to provide water connections to every house for which a cost of Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 is estimated and required per house."

With regard to this, an amount of Rs 170 crore is requested to the government which will be sanctioned soon, he said; in addition to this the water wastage in the city can be reduced.

Underground drainage system

Around Rs 250 crore has been spent in the city for the construction of underground drainage system in a few places. Few of the old drainage systems in the city have collapsed and require to be rebuilt.

Hence to continue the additional work, that is for thr new drainage and to undertake repair work, a demand of Rs 150 crore is also requested to the government, which is currently in sanctioning stage. The project will be completed in next three years, added Lobo.

Modernization of markets

"Crucial steps will be taken to modernize and undertake necessary works at central markets, Kadri, Kankanady, Urwa, Alape and other markets," said Lobo.

"About the development work in these markets, we have already spoken to concerned authorities. The target period for this project is 3.5 years," he added.

Land registration

"We have held a discussion with officials of the registration department and have sent a proposal to the government to bring stability to the fluctuating land prices in the city, to which the government has accepted positively," said Lobo.

Permission for buildings

"Earlier, in order to obtain permission for construction of building, we had to go to MUDA and which would be later sent to MCC. But now, the same can be obtained directly by a single window system which is set up at MCC along with the joint commissioner being appointed to led the same," said Lobo.

Corporators Shashidar Hedge, Lancelot Pinto, Asha D’Silva, Akhila Alva, Sabitha Misquith, Ashok DK, leaders T K Sudheer, Nazeer Bajal, Krithin Kumar, Mohan Mendon among others were present.

'Proper planning is halfworkdone' if you do a proper palning and procurement the realization doesn't take much time, but with government department I dont know whether it works or not but personal level its yes. I was talking to Mr. Patwardan one of the India's famous Infrstructure advisor and professoror NICMAR he was telling me there is more tha 450K crore worth of goverment projects are stalled without progress and in dispute and more than half of the money is spent by government and if coirts awrad the claims of the Contractors the remaining amount will be more than the said amount and people of India never bothered about this other than pitty things and street demonstartions on relgious issues where as big chunk of their tax money is stalled because of burecracy and wrong administration from the government bodies on such large highway and industrial projects.

During monsoon season, most of public works ( for eg. road, construction works, drainage lines, water lines, etc.) will be hampered. From June to August there can not be any construction work due to heavy rains in Mangalore. During this time, there were many casualties like flooding, collapse of roofs n walls etc. resulted out of rains. Mangalore city lacks a master plan and hence development in small small patches would create havoc in rainy season. Mr.Lobo tried to address grievances to his best in these three months. He also utilized this time to come up with long term plans for the city and also focused attention on pending works. Work can go on smoothly after September till May in Mangalore. As some esteemed man observed in daiji that Mr.Yogish bhat couldnt complete hangin bridge and other developmental works in his four term as MLA. He took 20 years to complete synthetic sport tracks.

It is not easy to talk to people with diverse opinions and also tough to escape from bureaucratic delays. Lobama has to complete pending works of Yogish Bhat and also plan new projects for Mangalore on priority basis. Yogish Mama had luxury of Maaji CM DVS to get bulk funds to Mangalore but he didnt try. Lobo Maam had to convince so many individuals in Government to get funds released. Any major public work had to be planned well so that it sustains for many decades without interference. Quality and Safety emerges out of vision n zeal. Take sufficient time for good plannin once for all, then implement the same. What Mr.Lobo needs is peoples support. Otherwise he can not do anything.

Thank you so much, Mr. J. R. Lobo, for your timely follow up on so many projects and plans that involves progress and prosperity for the people of Mangalore. The entire village has to wake up and join in your pursuits of plans and programs that involves better standard of life for all people - young or old, rich or poor.

Thru your leadership initiatives, you have brought new awakening in the community, and we wish to extend to your our warm greetings and best wishes in all your plans and efforts for Mangalore.

Having lived in America for the past thirtyfive years, we watch the methodology, the work discipline, the planning process and project implementations, and most importantly the "TEAM WORK" that is attached with such a profound sense of dedication and commitment towards people who elect those leaders. This is something admirable and commendable. Ultimately, everything that is planned for the people is meant to be for the people and to the people where everyone has to pay a proportionate amount of Tax thru the City level, State level or Federal level. As a result every citizen reaps the benefit at the end of each day with liberty and justice for all.

It is our prayer and desire therefore, Shriman Lobo, that thru your wise leadership and friendship many more good things should come into reality in Mangalore and elsewhere. May you be the role model for many others that surround you in your daily pursuit of life. It is a task and dedication that is tough and tiresome but thru good leadership everything is possible in a God fearing country such as India. "Dhanyawaadh".

yes, it's appreciated to see someone who is really having plans for some good projects. But the time frame is too long. If it's planned like this it will next election time and whole effort will go for toss. Some countries ute country level projects in an year or two. We are talking about a city and if everybody joins Lobo and Lobo puts complete effort on his projects, it could definitley be completed with in the mentioned time frame. Let's bring the change ASAP. There should be some result soon to get the public confidence. Talking abour 3.5 years and all, it doesn't look like a good time frame. We need immediate change in couple of top priority issues like water problem, infra strucutre , Road conditions and above all, control the private bus parties, both drivers and owners. We are fed up of seeing so many accidents every day, deaths of youths... etc etc. This could be a simple move either by deploying KSRTC busses or peanalising bus owners / owners in case of such accidents / loss. It doesn't need much money, just need the courage to take such a bold step.

I would like mention here that vechicle parking facility is a great necessity in Hampankatta area
therefore the issue needs immediate attention.Multilayer parking facility by funding by LIC etc., can be explored as it is a paid service to the consumers and therefore generates income.

He has set a time for completion of these works at hand and if people co-operate it will be done quickly.
May be peoples' input on those works may help his office to realise it faster.

Every other day a senior citizen is loosing his life as there is no place for pedestrians to walk in roads in Mangalore. Surely we need 24X7 water supply, but more importantly decent footpaths to ensure 24X 7 safety to our citizens
