New Delhi, Aug 23: A delegation led by Mangalore MP,  Nalin Kumar Kateel, called on Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister M Veerappa Moily and Union  Surface Transport Minister Oscar Fernandes and urged the ministers to prevail upon the Centre to drop the proposed of ultra power project at Niddodi near Moodabirdri in the interest of the public.

The delegation, which called on the two ministers in Delhi on Thursady, submitted memoranda opposing the project on the ground that it would deprive thousands of villagers of their sources of livelihood.

The delegation said pointed out that thousands of residents, who believe their lands will be directly or indirectly affected if the proposed 4,000 MW mega thermal power plant is established at Niddodi, have been opposing the project.

It said villagers have also written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah asking him to scrap the project.

The Mathrubhoomi Samrakshana Samiti, Niddodi has been opposing the project on the grounds of displacement of villagers of Niddodi and nearby villages of Yedapaduv, Nirude, Puttige, Kateel, Mucchuru, Padu Perar, Mudu Perar and Thenka Yedapadavu.

The Samiti has also sent similar letters to the Prime Minister and the President as also the local MLA, Deputy Commissioner.

The delegation included Samiti President Alphonse D’Souza, and its office-bearers Jagannath Shetty, Baskar Devasya, Poovappa Gowda and Sudhakar Suvarna.

MP Nalin Kumar was in the deepest of slumbers. Over 4 years never heard of him. Now that JP has clearly stated that there will not be any power plant at Niddodi why harp over the same, again and again. Instead he should find a way that many youngsters from the twin districts find suitable employment on completing their studies. He would be liked very much for this. Go ahead and do a favour to all unemployed educated youth, MP.

It is injustice that the centre plans to make use of wet land for the purpose of Thermal Power Plant. It is like taking the bread from the mouth of a farmer and throwing it to the dogs. No doubt, we need development, but not at the cost of displacement. Develop the dry land that is available.
Land and life are equally important. Hence, dear duty bearers, respects the demands of the Rights Holders. we live in a democratic country. Respect, protect and promote the rights of the people and when people do not wish that their land to be used for thermal plant project, you need to respect it. India is large enough. Bring in establishment and development not at the cost od Human rights.

As commented by others Mr Jayaprakash Hegde did not explain the status in Tulu to Nalin Kumar. This is only for publicity this guy is going to Delhi and on who's expense we don't know. Once Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde announces that "No thermal plant will be initiated at Niddodi" then what is the use in going to Delhi to appeal. That is why we say we need educated people like Mr Jayaprakash Hegde in MP's seat.

Perhaps many here are interested in Politics than our elected MP's. Both JP & Nalin indifferent of parties has raised their voices in support of localities. But here many have jumped to such low level, & busy with cheap political statements. It seems for many here Niddodi matter is more of debate subject than question of agriculturists future.

Nalin Kumar Kateel - please let us know why the Cement plant of famous ACC near UPCL Padubidri is not coming up which could have utilized all fly ash of UPCL for manufacturing cement and solved the problem of fly ash once for all ?
Is it true that, as that company refused to pay huge bribe in crores to Nirani Industry Minister in BJP govt, your BJP govt refused to give clearance ?

(Unfortunately present Siddu govt is also demanding same favour for giving clearance to ACC. When it comes to corruption all the parties are same.)

Dear Ramachandra, what Ravi, BJP ex-minister said applies to this Naveen Kateel, Gasless-soda or spineless creature. He was sleeping until now. When Mr. Hegde has made it clear that Niddodi Project won't go ahead, our MP is trying to gain some mileage! Politics is dirty. Dinesh Poojari is ignorant or blind, as he has not read what Mr. Hegde had told about the said project a few days ago!
