Bhatkal: Bus rams into parked lorry near Shiroor - Over 50 injured

Bhatkal, Aug 25: Over 50 persons were injured in an accident that took place near Shiroor-Bhatkal border here on Sunday August 25.

The accident occured when a Durgamba bus rammed into a parked lorry from the rear end.

Among the injured, four are said to have sustained serious injuries. After intial treatment in Bhatkal government hospital, they were shifted to Manipal and Kundapur hospitals.

The bus was carrying trainees from Syndicate Institute of Bank Management, Manipal. The injured persons hail from different parts of India inlcuding Haryana, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. They had come to Murdershwar on a day-long trip and were on their way back to Manipal when the accident took place.

Altogether, 82 trainees had come on the trip, with 60 of them travelling by bus and 22 by a mini bus.

A case has been registered in Bhatkal rural police station.
