Teenagers caught while stealing from house at Babbukatte

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (EP)

Mangalore, Aug 28: Three teenage boys are said to have been caught red handed while stealing from an empty house at Babbukatte, near Thokottu, Ullal here.

The thieves are identified as 18-year-old Srinivasa, 17-year-old Mohammed and 18-year-old Appu. The trio had entered the empty house belonging to businessman Jayanth Kotian on Tuesday August 27 night. The three entered the house that was empty for the last two months, through the window and remained there for the whole night.

They damaged the pump, pot and tried to steal them. Neighbour Piusam D’Souza grew suspicious with the noise in the house and informed the house owner. He in turn informed his friend, a hotel owner. When the people in the vicinity came to know of the incident, they have caught hold of the three thieves and beat them before handing them over to the police.

The police who arrived after an hour

The police who were located approximately three kilometers away from Babbukatte were informed about the theft. They arrived after an hour and hesitated to take the thieves who were assaulted by the people, alleged the people. The police initially asked the people to bring the thieves with them in an auto and took them only after arguments.

Though several incidents of thefts are occurring in Ullal Police station limits, the police have been unable to arrest the culprits. Their refusal to take the three boys along even after handed over by the public has caused anguish among the people.

    Dear Omar,

I have not given lecture or appreciated the act, rather I did not like these boys being beaten black & blue by the public.

Instead of asking me who is thousands of miles away from M'lore, you people are thereto divert the attention towards noble case than sending counter comments and you should know better what you are busy with.

How pathetic can we be? If a boy robs goods worth few rupees we will beat him black, the police will rough him up and torture him and put him behind bars.
If a man robs millions we will elect him as our representative and the police will give escort him everywhere he goes.

    Bollu Mangalore,

I do agree with you but there are millions of poor families and children living in poverty and if every second poor kid adopts the easy way of earning money by robing, there would be more thieves than good people in the society.

I think, because of their age (juveniles) they cannot be employed considering the fact that it is against Child Labor Act. During 70's we used to see so many small boys (may be below 12 yrs.) used to work in the restaurants and other odd jobs in M'lore.

After all, I know it is the hunger which drives someone to grab whatever opportunity to feed their stomach. Like the sayings in Hindi "Papi Pet ka saval hai"

I hope they will try to come out clean and continue with crime free life one day.

It is such a sad viewing. These kids need schooling and counselling, not "Saudi Style" mob punishment. We all have done mischief when we were kids (may be not to the same extent), but remember the house they tried to steal from was not occupied....they didn't intrude into someone's privacy.

I think it is really sad that people will just jump at an opportunity to hit anyone without even considering the fact that these are young children. Yes they have done wrong by stealing. But is beating them black and blue the answer? This sets a bad example for young children who see people hitting other young boys. They will eventually do this when they are older.

My Name is pradeep(Not real name)I would like to remind people about an incident that took place at near deralakette,A robber was caught and was getting beaten by at least 30 people. He tried to steal steel utensils but he didnot suceed and caught. The Thief was in agony and bleeding because of the blows he had received.By then A white TATA sumo came and a Christian man came down and stopped all the people and inquired the matter,Thief said he wanted money to pay the bill at hospital(His old mother), He was pretty desperate to raise the money he asked many people, even poor relatives and got about 600 rupees(He needed Rs 7000).For our surprise this Good man not only paid the bill at hospital(I came to know later) and gave good advice to people and the robber.

Today this man( Robber) works in our company and leads decent life. His life changed because of this one kind and generous man who made difference in our lives.(I offered him a job). I think instead of beating up people who have done little robberies,I guess best to forgive them and show them a way.

I like the comment from John Dsouza

Only those people suffered and experienced the in-depth of life are knowing the pain of poverty.

I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD WHEN GIVING CHARITY, THE SELFISH PEOPLE ARE SEEING THE DAY/DATE AND TIME SO THAT THE GIVEN CHARITY SHOULD COME BACK TO THEM.

In our society if such kind of people are existing how the society will improve.

The mind set of the people is rotten that is why they have gotten the wealth.

Also there are cases the juveniles are keeping the boys whoever's hand or leg is cut so that they beg and these juveniles get income.

I do not support the act of these boys. However, the neighbors thrashing them to bleed like hell and exposing them to Media is not at all justified. The neighbors showed their heroism because they are from a poor family back ground. If at all they were children of rich family, would these neighbors laid their hands on them ? All these teen age boys require is counseling and love and not merciless beatings from fake heros who are one step ahead to hit the already dead snake and claim the trophy. Shame on you guys. From their looks only, one can imagine their family back ground/condition in the family.

Totally disoriented status. No education, street life, no hard work and only way left to make easy money is by robbing. Even by punishment they may not learn the lesson. Only some social organization can reform them.

Our economy is in downhill progress and in fact totally crashed!people need money to survive.here after you will see more rapes, robberies and theft and what not in our country. Now lets be reasonable.. do u want a way out? solve some of the problems?well think seriously! How much money and wealth do you have? Have you given anything to the needy and poor?Have you given someone a Job ?taken care of the school fees? fed the hungry or even shoes for children? how about hospital bills? Well many of us forget that others have to live and feed.If God has given you enough..then please share a little with needy. Heaven is watching, let us not say we need it for future...is there a safe and better future. Its now.We can all hide but not from Gods eyes because he knows what we have and what good we could have done while we are living !

I feel pity for these boys.I am not justifying crime. There is law and order to punish them. There might be reason why they comitted crime.Poverty, school out, drunken father, broken family,no moral background etc may be the cause. At this early age they are in a wrong path. They got severe beatings for the petty theft. If not corrected they will remain as criminals.I remember at the same age with my friends I stole tendor coconuts from others plot just for fun.But after few years of eduction I felt I was wrong.I apologised the owner after 8 years.Today I am educated, well settled in life with loving wife and children.Looking back I feel mostly teenager miss the track somewhere some point of life but society should not be too harsh.I was lucky missed public beatings.God's mercy.

having very good education system,Laws in place,Jobs are very plenty for those low educated then why the present day youth adopted the wrong path?.The answer is lack of Good governance by the law makers. These politicians are busy in maximising the capacity in jails , more police stations , fast track courts etc etc .Need of the hour is creation of self employment opportunity ,rural development, compulsory free education upto HSC,better policies for un organised sectors and community development programmes .All these can be possible when there is a able leader from Gram panchayat till prime minister to whom we should elect and support him in their work by giving timely suggesions

Instead ways should be found to keep these aimless youngsters occupied with some productive work and pay them accordingly.
