Bangalore: Indiscipline of Students Drives Head Master to End Life

Daijiworld News Network - Bangalore (GA)

Bangalore, Aug 29: In the last few years incidences of teachers punishing students have often surfaced. Incidences of sexual abuse by teachers too have hit the news headlines quite a few times. At times such abuses, punishments have pushed students to end their lives. But here's a rare case of a head master of a school high school, ending his life complaining the indiscipline of students, particularly the SSLC students of his school.

A 53-year-old head master of DGMP school at R T Nagar here took the extreme step of ending his life unable to handle the mischievous students.

The teacher, who ended his life by jumping into the Cauvery river in Sangam near Srirangapatna near Mysore, has been identified as Vedanthachar, son of Rangachar, a resident of R.T.Nagar here.

In his death note, Vedanthachar is reported to have written that he was offering his life to the River Cauvery as he could not bear the indiscipline among his pupils specially the SSLC students who hardly concentrated on studies. He had gone missing from last Saturday and when his relatives came searching for him in the school, his death note was found. They immediately alerted the police about this and began efforts to trace him. However, Vedantachar remained untraceble till Tuesday August 27.

His boday was finally found in a decomposed state in the river near Mahadevapura on August 27 morning and his identity was established through the watch and clothes found on the body.

His body was fished out later and handed over to the family members after the autopsy.

Looks really fishy. He had few other options instead of ending his life
    1.He could have taken VRS.
    2. He could have resigned.
    3. He could have taken transfer from this school.
    4. He could have consult with the parents one on one.

Let all the parents wake up and teach discipline to their children. Now the teacher has ended his life. I am afraid a time will come where the parents will end their life for giving birth such kind of children.

This proves what intimate relation he had with his pupils. I can strongly say Guru is above parents(not relating to fake Gurus). A child spends his time/days in school more than at home. Poor Head Master was so desperate and sad to see/predict the irresponsible students future, he lost desire in his own life. During our time, we were caned and punished by our teachers and yet we had/still have great respect towards our teachers who shed light on our path and their hard work is the reason why many of us are successful in our life. All the credit goes to those selflessly serving souls. I can recall our Principal, our beloved late Rev. Fr. B.L. D'Souza, a real roaring tiger who always had a cane in his pocket to mould us. But, new generation - God save them. Parents can not control them. Teachers can not advise them. Only Political leaders will misguide and exploit them in the name of various groups and unions. When the time come to realize their mistakes and repent it is too late. Then failure in life leads to desperation and desperation leads to criminal activities. The end...either jail or suicide. May God give wisdom and understanding to our children.

School managements are so afraid of the students / parents, that the kiwi maathu is always to the teacher 'go soft'.

The parents are directionless in this COMFORT world, and they expect teachers to straighten their children, apart from imparting education.

A child spends about 17 hours at home with parents, and only 5-6 hours at school on working days. Yet, the responsibility of moral/academic education is on teachers? Unfair, parents are being extremely unreasonable.

Teachers should be strong willed and strict towards the students. It should not be Teacher melts to students behaviour but students should behave according to teachers order. I remember my school days, how the bad students used to get pasting (some times slap on the cheek) by s strict Master. (8th form student - Milagres school). Shock of life not only that studend, rest became chicken. But times has changed now.

Flavian, Mangalore, you are talking about our time. Flavian the time has changed. Our parents never used to ask us what happened in School, with whom you quarreled, any home work, any trouble from School Management, but now any punishment is treated as crime. Caning is commonly used by teachers as a punishment in schools during our time. Now if the Head master says come in uniform some local parties like Ram sena/Students union/The Bajrang Dal or other political parties steps up a campaign against the schools or school management . Parents will come to support the children and our parents used to slaps on our face.

Students must be not knowing what is the effect of GURU-SHAPA.
I know 3 students sprayed ink on teachers (masters)shirt behind and master cried in the class because of these 3 boys attitue.
Later many years one by one all 3 of them commited suicide.
    So students better understand.
Guru Shapa and parents shapa will not lead you anywhere in life.

When Minor’s caught, they were punished by the local people. Now these minors(students) behavior forced the Head Master to commit suicide. Now Parents, local Police , and People has to punish these students. What a blind person needs is not a teacher but another self.
Now Parents and local people will come to support students…. This is justice in India.

It would have been simpler had he just resigned from the post, if he had tried to teach his students a lesson by giving his precious life it is utterly useless as the current generation is destroying themselves.

This is the outcome of an unstable mind.If he had much concern, he would have strived for the betterment of the students without giving up.what did he achieve by giving up his life? Will it make a difference to the lives of the students now?
If you are not mentally tough nowadays then it is not worth it to be a 'teacher'.What lesson has he left behind now?

It's a pity a well meaning HeadMaster lost life out of desparation that his pupils are not up to the mark. But by death did he achieve his goal? A very few who were in his contact may feel sad, but this will not lead to any revolution. Even his colleagues will forget the incident soon. He should have faced and try to correct atleast a few would have been a great achievement.
