Udupi, Feb 12: The Naxal movement is alive and kicking. Instances of suspected Naxals entering a village or reports on pro-naxal posters spotted, is common. But on Thursday, a group of Naxalites pulled down a ‘Naagabana’ at Horiabbe near Byndore and have threatened the landlords of serious consequences.

It is learnt that water from nearby Varahi River is being drawn for Sandur project and has resulted in shortage of water for irrigation in the surrounding region.

To overcome the problem, rich landlords have built a mud dam across the river to store water owing to which the river went dry in the low-lying areas, affecting crops in the poor farmers' land.

The poor farmers demolished the mud dam constructed by the landlords and made the water to flow following which the landlords reconstructed the mud dam and built a 'Naagabana' at the nearby forest.

The Naxalites who are said to have come to the rescue of the poor farmers pulled down the 'Naagabana' and also threatened the landlords.
