Mangalore, Feb 12: A massive fire engulfed a godown at the Old Bunder during the early hours of Sunday Feb 12 destroying most of the goods stored inside.

The godown housed goods belonging to Upendra Trading Company, R K T Agencies and Varadaraj agencies and the loss is estimated at Rs 25 lac.

The godown in which glossary items including washing soda, cattle feed and tea powder were stored is said to have caught fire due to a short circuit. A total of four fire extinguishers rushed to the spot to control the rising flames.

Sources revealed that the fire was one of the most massive fires reported in the recent years in the region.

The loss could be high because of Sunday, when most of the shops remain closed and the fire may not have been detected early.

More details are awaited.
