Bangalore, Feb 13: The Catholic Bishops of India, as part of their 27th general body meeting, celebrated an open-air Holy Mass on the St Joseph's Indian High School grounds on Sunday, February 12, with the theme  – "Catholic Education and The church's concern for the marginalized".

A total of 160 Bishops who gathered here participated in the Holy Mass. Cardinal Toppo of Ranchi reitetrated the need to uplift the downtrodden, a work Church has been doing from its inception.

At a civic reception held immediately after the Holy Mass, Karnataka governor T S Chaturvedi, High Court chief Justice Cyriac Joseph participated.

Cultural programmes

Organizing committee chairman Archbishop Bernard Moras expressed his appreciation for having a highest number of Bishops for the first time in Bangalore at such an important event. In his speech he conveyed the message to all to liberate the downtrodden from the present clutches and help them to join the mainstream of the society.

Cultural programme by the children of Stella Maris, Sophia and Mount Carmel kept the crowd entertained.
