Bangalore girl Anjana Padmanabhan wins first 'Indian Idol Junior'

Mumbai, Sep 2 (IANS): She doesn’t know Hindi, but her powerful and melodious rendition of Hindi songs helped 10-year-old Anjana Padmanabhan win the audiences’ hearts, and thus, the first “Indian Idol Junior” title at the star-studded grand finale of the singing reality show here Sunday.

For the finale, the Bangalore-based Anjana competed with three other finalists - Nirvesh Sudhanshubhai Dave, Debanjana Karmakar and Anmol Jaswal. The talented young girl was ecstatic upon receiving the trophy from megastar Amitabh Bachchan, and much to everyone’s delight, she made a short acceptance speech in Hindi.

“Maine yeh expect nahin kiya thha. Main bahut khush hun (I didn’t expect this. I am very happy),” she said after being adjudged the winner based on audience voting.

As the ‘Indian Idol Junior’, she went back home with a trophy, a cash prize of Rs.25 lakh and a Nissan Micra car. She was also gifted cheques of Rs.500,000 and Rs.200,000 from Kotak Mahindra and Horlicks, respectively.

Judged by singer Shreya Ghoshal, and music composer duo Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, the Sony Entertainment Television show was hosted by Karan Wahi and Mandira Bedi. It went on air June 1.

The finale lived upto its buzz as Amitabh even sang "Mere sath aao mere doston" with Shekhar and the four finalists.

Shahid Kapoor too made an appearance on the show to promote his upcoming film "Phata Poster Nikla Hero". The actor also took to the stage with Vishal to perform their hit track "Dhan te nan" from "Kaminey". He later danced to the beats of "Dhating naach" from his upcoming movie with “Indian Idol Junior” contenders.

"Zanjeer" stars Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja also made a roaring presence on the show. They entered while grooving to the beats of "Akhi Mumbai humko salam thokti dekho" from their forthcoming film.

Priyanka even performed a Bihu dance on "Daiya re daiya" on the behest of two participants of the show - Priyam Borpatra and Eman Chaudhary. The actress even requested the final four to sing for her - and they chose to croon her tracks "Gun gun guna re" and "Desi girl".

Apart from performances by the top four contestants and celebrity guests, the judges also put up an energetic show. All remaining contestants, who were in the top 11, also got a chance to showcase their talent once again.

Shreya lured the audience with her song "Sun raha hai na tu" from "Aashiqui 2" and "Itni si hansi" from Barfi, Vishal-Shekhar accompanied her for "Radha" and "Ooh la la". The music composer duo also belted out some of their hit numbers including "Disco deewane" and "One two three four".

The final performance was of the top four contestants who paid a tribute to Amitabh by singing some of his hit numbers, including "Yeh mera dil", " Ab toh hai tumse", "Dekha na haye re".

At the finale, an announcement of an Indian Idol Academy, which will impart musical training to children, was also made.

Good job, but don't forget to dedicate your success to your own mother land TN. How desperate these Tamil people are to become one among Bangaloreans and other Kannadigas. This is not out of love, it is just an expression of monopoly that they are dreaming of in Karnataka, and they desperately want to run away from their own true identity that's all. Tamil's dreams will remain dreams because they never did anything with love for K'taka people.

Anjana was a clear winner and she deserved to win the title. The only one who could have stopped her was Anmol. Debanjana and Nirvesh were good but not versatile. Debajana is in Kavita Krishnamurthy mould. She has strong classical base but isn't that comfortable with peppy, up-tempo numbers. She has a good matured voice but struggles when dance numbers are on her way. Nirvesh struggled throughout the season with the low notes. But Anmol and Anjana were consistent, versatile. Anjana's voice is as sweet as Shreya's and powerful and rocking as Sunidhi's. Both Shreya and Sunidhi are ruling the roost as of now and yet they are two different schools of singing. But Anjana has the qualities of both. She is meliflous as well as powerhouse. She can belt out classical, semi-classical, fast, Sufi, peppy, rock or any other genre with ease. Add to it her unique voice which is one-of-its-kind. This tilted the title in her favour. She is not a native Hindi speaker. Yet her diction is as good as any other Hindi speakers. She is just 10-year-old and competed with 3 others who were at least 3 years older than her.

Wow what a talent, was amasing to watch the children sing. The whole Indian Idol format this time was good, with the judges appreciating and motivating all the contestants. I was a little disappointed with the grand finale since some of the some were lip-sync and it was very obvious in the show. This will only give a bad example to the young talent.

Yes Indeed I too Were the Fan of Debanjana! She rendered all the SOngs well! but what Made a Change is that - Shri Pyarelals judgment round - Anjana Sang Well and she secured her title. Debanjana is a really star she sings well her attitude and rendition is too good and even i was expecting her to win! Song selecion for Debanjana in the finals may be the reason not getting the title.Anjana's songs were had throw and she really sang well Hats off to her.But one thing Anjana Must learn Kannada.

I thought Debanjana had an edje over Anjana. Ofcourse, Anjana is younger and has a lot to learn. When you look at the voice unlike Anjana, Debanjana is quite ready for playback singing. Yeh public hain bhai sabh kuch nahi janti hain. Anjana was good in everything for her age except for voice. But she pronounces the words to perfection which must have impressed the public. For Debanjana nothing to lose heart. In the end I thought the major competition was between the two girls. I can not forget the other two littlies Sonakshi Kar & Sugandha Date.
