Udupi, Sep 2: Students led by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest against the poor quality of food served at the hostel for girls from backward classes and minority communities, run by the government at Bannanje. The protest was organized in front of Clock Tower here on Monday September 2.

"Even though the officials had instructed provision of good food, the cook does not bother about it and provides stale food," they alleged.

"Many students including Roopa, Sushmitha, Nagashree and others have been hospitalized due to food poisoning. Many have gone back home and a few are still struggling to cope with the poor quality of food," they claimed.

The students demanded nutritious food and said that despite repeated requests for boiled rice, the hostel management has been providing white rice which is at times half boiled or boiled too much. "It is impossible for the hostel inmates to have such food," they complained.

"Day after day, the number of hostel inmates being admitted to the government hospital in Ajjarkad is increasing drastically. Officials have failed to look into the matter," they said.

The hostel accommodates nearly 160 women students from tenth standard onwards and they are found to have been suffering from vomiting and dysentery one after another. They have blamed the unhygienic and inferior quality of food in the hostel for it.

Students who protested with unison with ABVP complained that the hostel warden is indifferent to the situation. The rice that is being used to cook is said to be of inferior quality and unfit for human consumption. "Several students are suffering due to the negligence of the cooks. Though such things happen during examinations too, the people concerned have failed to act," they lamented.

The students submitted a memorandum in this regard to Sheshappa, hostel warden, DC M T Reju, and Rajendra Bekal, officer, women and child welfare department.

Govt. is providing free food and taking the blame for nothing. Better give cash allowance to the deserving candidates and let them decide what to eat. Any ways, Govt. has got cores to help the poor.

Albert Mangalore, what do you mean 'you guys ?' If you so much concerned about terrorism, why you were silent during Malegaon blast ? Are you so much worried about threat at border ? In fact, you should worry about internal enemies who instigate violence within India for their selfish gain, who kill innocent Indians on religion. With regards to going to Gulf to earn money, we go to work hard and earn money, but, people like to earn by goondagiri, moral policing and stealing jackets and birthday cakes. Next time comment with your real identity. Be a brave Kannadiga. Jai Karnataka. Jai Hind.

Rightly said Mr. Ronald D, Udupi. During BJP rule same menu was served to these students & they felt it healthy. Now, when Congress in ruling, they felt the food unhealthy and tasteless. It is better to serve beef compulsorily as it is very healthy. Jai Siddu, our shining Kannadiga.

Why ABVP privide good food and keep they healthy? When BJP was ruling the same type of food supplied and where were this ABVP?

All just to gain publicity and get some sympathy for coming Lokha Sabha Election. ABVP or BJP will never accept any SC, ST, or back word community in their group.

Students with good marks join Medical and engineering and other professional courses! Those with least marks join BA and other similar courses!! They force other branch students like BBA, BBM and hardly any MBA!! Generally they form ABVP I heard!! I am not sure!! Goal oriented and students with future vision are not seen in ABVP!! Correct me if I am wrong!! Yes we need youth force that has a proper vision and guided right!! Here I do not know who is their guide and trend setter!! God save our youth scattered without aim and goal for future!!
